Preparation Prepare Aquastop Nanoflex® in a clean container by pouring in approximately ¾ of the water required. Gradually add Aquastop Nanoflex® to the container, mixing the paste from the bottom upwards with a low-rev (≈ 400/min) agitator. Add more water until the desired consistency is obtained. The mixture must be of smooth consistency and without any lumps. The amount of water to be added, indicated on the packaging, is an approximate guide. It is possible to obtain mixtures with a more or less fluid consistency, depending on the type of application.

ApplicationAquastop Nanoflex® should be applied with a smooth spreader on a previously prepared substrate. Apply the first coat about 1 – 2 mm thick, pressing down to ensure maximum adhesion to the substrate. Once hardened and after removing any surface condensation, apply the second coat of Aquastop Nanoflex®. Lay a continuous, even layer about 2-3 mm thick covering the substrate completely. When waterproofing with Aquastop AR1 mesh, submerge the reinforcing mesh fully in the first layer of freshly applied waterproofing product, pressing down with the spreader. The subsequent laying of the covering should be placed at least 24 hours after the last layer of H40® range eco-friendly mineral adhesive has been applied. when working in low temperatures and with high humidity, the waiting time be-fore laying will be longer. If rain falls on the product before it is fully hardened, check it is ready before applying the next coat/covering.

CleaningResidual traces of Aquastop Nanoflex® can be removed from tools with plain water before the product hardens.

STORAGEProtect the rolls from direct sunlight, heat sources and rain, both during storage in the warehouse and on site. When laying the sheets, protect them from sunshine until shortly before application.

PREPARATION OF SUBSTRATE

1 Check the mechanical performance and surface consistency of the laying substrate.

2 Check that old flooring is properly anchored and clean.

3 Restore the continuity of the screed by sealing cracks with a width > 1 mm: break the crack open mechanically, remove dust and debris and repair using Kerarep Eco.

4 The residual humidity level in the screed, when measured with a carbon hygrometer, must be less than 8%.

5 Check the levelness and the presence of suitable camber that will guarantee drainage via suitable drains. Fill in any irregularities in the substrate using a suitable finishing product.

Notes• Checking Residual Humidity. Application of the membrane can be carried out on screeds created using Keracem® Eco products 24 hours after the screed has

been laid (standard conditions); on traditional sand-cement screeds it is necessary to wait until the screed is strong enough to walk on and to carry out subsequent operations.

In the event of rain showers during the hours preceding laying of the membrane, check that the surface is dry and free from standing water. In the event of rain during the days preceding laying of the membrane, check that at least the top 1/4 of the screed is dry.

• Checking for damage. The membrane is capable of compensating for hygrometric shrinkage of the screed (movements ≤ 1 mm); this means it is possible

to lay the membrane even on uncured screeds and/or on screeds without a suitable network of fractionising joints. In the case of fractured screeds or floors or those with a network of fractionising-expansion joints application of the membrane means that the laying pattern of the new flooring is not bound by the layout of the joints in the substrate. Structural joints: always respect the entire width of any structural joints, cut the membrane and connect its edges to the structural joint.

SUBSTRATE WATERPROOFING

1 Clean the substrates of dust, oil and grease, loose debris or flaky parts, residues of cement, lime, plaster/render, or paint coatings.

2 Do not apply to substrates at a temperature > 35 °C (temperature of the substrate); when absorbent substrates (screeds, standard grain concrete, etc.) are exposed to strong sunlight, damp their surfaces, avoiding the accumulation of an excessive quantity of water.

3 Unroll the sheets and cut them to size, considering a space of approximately 5 mm between the sheets and the perimeter walls, stringcourses, protrusions, columns, pillars, architectural elements, drains, etc., and between one sheet and the next.

4 Apply H40® No Limits® adhesive using a suitable toothed spreader; lay a thin layer with the smooth side, pressing down heavily to achieve maximum adhesion to the substrate and regulate water absorption.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Do not useOn anhydrite-based substrates without the use of Primer A Eco professional, concentrated, water-based surface insulation, on bituminous sheeting, on exposed surfaces, on inverted roofs made with insulation panels or low-density screeds, and on roofs of residential spaces built without vapour barrier and insulation layers.

755 Regulate the thickness by the tilt of the spreader, using the toothed part. Apply the adhesive to a surface area that will allow laying of the sheets within the open time indicated (check the state of the adhesive frequently). Avoid any build-up of adhesive, that might compromise the flatness of the sheets.

6 Position the sheets or unroll them onto the fresh adhesive, taking care they are flat and avoiding the formation of creases or bubbles.

7 Create joints approximately 5 mm in width between the sheets and the perimeter walls, stringcourses, etc., and between one sheet and the next.

8 Immediately press the sheets down onto the fresh adhesive using Aquaform R mixed with a bag of adhesive.

9 Check that the whole of the white unwoven fabric on the back of the membrane has been dampened; if necessary increase the amount of adhesive and press more carefully. Press properly to ensure that the membranes are taut.

10 Avoid getting fresh adhesive onto the roller, as this might compromise the surface of the sheets.

11 Lay the next sheet, aligning it with the preceding one and leaving a gap of approximately 5 mm between one sheet and the next; press immediately, paying particular attention to passage of the roller along the edges of the sheets.

Notes• The maximum length of membrane applicable is approximately 12 m; for longer sections, cut the membrane transversally and

leave a space of approximately 5 mm between one sheet and the next.

• If necessary, weight the edges down immediately after gluing.

WATERPROOFING OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ANGLES

1 Seal the outer edges of the surface, starting from the corners. Cut a 20 cm strip of Aquastop 100 and cut halfway into it about halfway along the strip.

2 Fold the strip in half to create an internal corner and two overlapping edges.

3 Apply Aquastop Fix sealing agent both on the wall and on the membrane using a smooth spreader and taking care to fill in circular cavities.

4 Position the special piece on the fresh sealant. Press firmly and smooth over the tape to ensure it adheres perfectly, being careful not to wrinkle it.

5 Seal the overlap between the two bases using Aquastop Fix.

6 Remove any excess sealant that may have seeped out and check the adhesion of all the tape edges.

7 For external angles, create an angle as described above and fold it into an open external angle, then cut a strip of Aquastop 100 14 cm in length and cut out a square approx. 7x7 cm to create an “L” shaped insert.

8 Fix the insert created on the fresh sealant to connect the special piece glued previously; press down hard and smooth to guarantee total sealing and avoid the formation of wrinkles in the tape.

Notes• Clean the surface of the sheets carefully; check that the plaster/render in the perimeter strip is clean and consistent.

PERIMETER WATERPROOFING

1 Lay the sealant along the perimeter in the vicinity of the wall-floor corner joints: lay the sealant both on the wall and on the membrane in strips approximately 10 cm in width.

2 Position Aquastop 100 and smooth carefully.

3 Remove any excess Aquastop Fix that may have seeped out from under the tape, and take care to ensure the edges of the tape are fixed to the membrane. When waterproofing the wall-floor joint, lay about 10 cm Aquastop 100 over the special pieces.

Notes• Clean the surface of the sheets carefully; check that the plaster/render in the perimeter strip is clean and consistent.

WATERPROOFING BETWEEN THE SHEETS

1 Seal the longitudinal joints between one sheet and the next: apply the sealant using a smooth spreader for a width of at least 10 cm on either side along the joint (gap), taking care to fill in the cavities in the membrane completely.

2 Fix the tape on the fresh sealant.

3 Press down strongly and smooth to remove any wrinkles and to guarantee total sealing of Aquastop 100.

4 Remove any sealant that may have seeped out and make sure the edges of the tape are properly glued down.

5 Check frequently to ensure that the tape mesh is completely coated.

6 Seal the transversal joints (every 10-12 m) in the same way.

7 After laying, protect the surface of the membrane immediately from frequent foot traffic and direct abrasion using wooden planks or panelling.

Notes• Do not cover the tape with the sealant, to ensure that the subsequent covering applied  will be properly level.

• Seal the entire perimeter and all the sheet-to-sheet contacts.

• Use Superflex Eco when fixing the tape on metals, plastics and stable woods.

WATERPROOFING OF THE THRESHOLD JOINT

1 Apply Aquastop Fix sealant under the threshold to fix the tape, which must have an asymmetrically positioned cross-section (“L” or “ ” position).

2 Apply the sealant and fix Aquastop 100 onto the fresh sealant, following the wall-floor joint.

3 Press firmly and smooth over to ensure the tape seals perfectly, being careful not to wrinkle it.

4 Join the threshold tape to the waterproofing of the wall-floor corner joint, overlapping the tapes by approximately 10 cm.

WATERPROOFING OF THE WALL-FLOOR CORNER JOINT IN THE PRESENCE OF BITUMINOUS SHEATH

1 Remove the upper half of the protective film and fix Aquastop BT to the wall on the clean, dry bituminous sheath. Fix the tape to the floor, following the wall-floor joint.

2 Bang on the tape to guarantee total adhesion to the substrates.

3 Smooth, avoiding the formation of any wrinkles (use tools that will not damage the tape).

4 During laying of the membrane, overlap the sheets on the horizontal part of Aquastop BT, creating a gap approximately 5 mm wide between the sheets and the wall.

5 To waterproof the corner, apply Aquastop Fix sealant vertically on Aquastop BT and horizontally on the adjacent portion of membrane, and position the Aquastop 100 tape.

Notes• Aquastop BT tape is recommended when connecting the membrane to metals, plastic materials, stable wood: clean the

substrates, removing any condensation.

JOINING THE WATERPROOFING LAYER TO AQUAFORM DRAINS

1 Lay Aquastop Fix on the black TNT connection surfaces of the AquaForm drains and on the adjacent surfaces to be connected .

2 Position the special pieces of Aquastop 100 cut to measure.

3 Press firmly and smooth over to ensure the tape seals perfectly, being careful not to wrinkle it. If necessary, use several pieces of tape until the drain has been completely sealed (black TNT totally covered).

WATERPROOFING: SPECIAL CASES

1 In cases where there is insufficient space for adhesion of the Aquastop 100 tape, seal using Nanosil Eco, reduce the gap between sheet and element to be sealed to 2–3 mm; wait until the H40® No Limits® adhesive has hardened and then proceed with sealing. Extrude an abundant quantity of the product and allow it to penetrate deeply, to guarantee complete filling of the gap.

2 Cure the seal with Nanosil Eco in the vicinity of thresholds, perimeter stringcourses, grills, drains, down spouts, through elements, railing posts and installations.

Notes• Protect the membrane from direct sunlight and heat for at least 12 hours.

• Protect from rain for at least 12 hours (the hardening of the Aquastop Fix sealant guarantees waterproofing of the system).

LAYING THE FLOOR

1 Apply a first layer of adhesive to fill in the circular cavities; using the smooth part of the spreader.

2 Adjust the thickness of the adhesive using a toothed spreader of a type suited to the size of tile. Lay the flooring with open joints, with gaps of a minimum width from 2 – 3 mm according to the size of the tile (UNI standard 11493 point 7.10.2).

3 Check that the entire back of the tile is impregnated, to guarantee the suitability of the adhesive system.

4 Grout the gaps using Fugabella® Eco 2-20.

5 Seal the elastic joints using Fugabella® Eco Silicone.

* If the flooring is expected to be laid more than 5-7 days after waterproofing, finish the surface of the membrane itself with H40® No Limits®. This finish has the aim of protecting the membrane from atmospheric agents and direct wear. Clean the surface thoroughly before applying the finish: removing dust, any condensation, residue from previous operations, and apply a layer of adhesive to fill the circular cavities, then cover the whole of the surface with an even layer of adhesive approximately 1-2 mm thick.

Notes• The floor can be laid immediately using H40® No Limits®; it is not necessary to wait. Take care not to compromise the adhesion

of the fresh sealant under the tapes.

• If the floor is not laid immediately, protect the finished surface from rain, direct sunshine and heat.

• Provide for elastic joints at least 5 mm in width to separate the floor from the vertical elements and between materials of different types; create a grid of movement joints measuring between 3x3 m and 4x2.5 m (UNI standard 11493 point 7.11.1.2) with particular attention to possible structural movements.

• Provide for structural joints along their entire length.

• The presence of the anti-fracture membrane allows laying patterns that are not restricted by the geometry and characteristics of the substrates.

• Lay the skirting boards so that they are raised with respect to the floor, being fixed to the wall only

Preparation of substratesIn general, substrates must be free from dust, oil and grease, dry and free from any rising damp, with no loose, flaky or imperfectly anchored parts such as residual traces of cement, lime and paint, which must be totally removed.

PreparationPrepare Aquastop Fix in a clean container, first of all pouring in a quantity of water equal to approximately ¾ of the amount required. Gradually pour Aquastop Fix into the container, mixing the paste from the bottom upwards with a low-rev (400/min.) electrical mixer. Add more water until the desired consistency is obtained. The mixture must be of smooth consistency and without any lumps. The amount of water to be added, indicated on the packaging, is an approximate guide. Adding extra water does not improve the workability of the eco-friendly sealant but may cause shrinkage in the plastic phase of drying and result in less effective final performance with a reduction in compressive and shear strength and adhesion to the substrate.

ApplicationPerimeter joints: apply the eco-friendly sealant Aquastop Fix on the wall and on the Aquastop Green membrane with a smooth trowel by filling in the hollow circular ribs for around 10 centimetres in width and apply Aquastop 100 on the fresh sealant by following the wall-floor joint. Press firmly and smooth over to ensure the tape seals perfectly, being careful not to wrinkle it.Joints between adjacent sheets: apply the eco-friendly sealant Aquastop Fix along the joints with a smooth trowel for at least 20 centimetres in width by filling in the hollow circular ribs and leaving a thin, even layer. Fix Aquastop 100 to the fresh sealant, following the joint between sheets. Press firmly and smooth over to ensure the tape seals perfectly, being careful not to wrinkle it.

The subsequent laying of the coating can be carried out immediately. If rain falls on the product before it is fully hardened, check the adhesion of Aquastop 100 tape carefully.

CleaningResidual traces of Aquastop Fix can be removed from tools with plain water before the product hardens.

Preparation of substratesThe substrate must be perfectly cured and dry, solid (i.e.free of weak or easily removable parts) and free from oil, grease and paint. Check that the concrete contains no traces of parting compound. When working on weakened parts, when parts of the substrate are missing and also in the case of gravel beds, the substrate must be restored with suitable repair mortars. Uneven areas must be corrected with suitable smoothing and finishing products. On ceramic substrates all traces of surface treatments such as wax and oil must be removed. The most suitable cleaning methods are sandblasting, mechanical scarification or washing with detergents and jet washing. Before application damp the surface of absorbent substrates, without letting any build-up of water occur. When waterproofing monolithic tanks or swimming pools grout the spacer holes using Kerabuild® Eco Epobond, epoxy organic mineral system, and use Kerabuild® Eco R4 Tixo mineral mortar to create rigid connection shells in horizontal and vertical corners and perform any levelling operations that may be necessary. On terraces and balconies expansion joints must be provided in the substrate. For waterproofing of corners and expansion joints with Aquastop 120 applied using Aquastop Flex. For external and internal angles and for water and drainage pipeline crossings use special pre-formed pieces applied using Aquastop Flex.

PreparationAquastop Flex is prepared by mixing component A with component B (preset ratio of 3 : 1 in the packaging). The two components should be mixed with a suitable low-rev electrical mixer for approximately 2 minutes until a mixture with a homogenous consistency is obtained. Pour the latex into a clean recipient and gradually add the powder during the mixing operation. Leave the mixture to rest for approximately 2 minutes to allow the co-polymer to become completely dispersed and mix again for approximately 20 seconds before use.

ApplicationAquastop Flex should be applied to a previously prepared substrate by spreader, roller or spraying. When waterproofing, apply the first coat and when the product has hardened apply the second coat in a direction transversal to the previous coat, making sure that the whole surface is completely covered to a minimum total thickness of 2 mm. Subsequent laying of the coating must take place at least 24 hours after application of the last coat, using adhesives from the H40® Eco range, in the case of low temperatures and high humidity levels the waiting time before laying must be extended.

CleaningResidual traces of the product can be removed from tools with plain water before the product has hardened.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Special applications:Walls waterproofed with Aquastop Flex: a wide rough coat must be applied when applying plaster.Use Aquastop 120 applied with Aquastop Nanoflex to waterproof structural joints.

Plasters with a gypsum base must present a residual humidity ≤ 1% and screeds with an anhydrite base ≤ 0.5%, both of which should be measured with a carbide hygrometer. Check for traces of thin finishing, that would interfere with the subsequent laying of heavy surface coverings such as ceramic tiles.

Preparation Nanodefense® Eco is ready-to-use and does not need any preparation. In any case, before use it is advisable to remix the product inside the pack to ensure the mixture is of an even consistency. Any excess waterproofing product can be kept for later use by putting the lid back on the packaging.

ApplicationApply a fine, uniform film, preferably using a short bristle, synthetic fibre roller, a steel spreader or brush. When applied with a roller or brush, wait until the first coat has hardened before proceeding with the second one (≈ 1 hr depending on the absorbency level of the substrate and temperature) in order to ensure waterproofing. Nanodefense® Eco is ready-to-use and does not need any preparation. Angles and hydraulic couplings must be joined respectively using a non-woven polypropylene tape with Aquastop 70 waterproof treat-ment and relative accessories applied directly with Nanodefense® Eco.

CleaningNanodefense® Eco can be removed from tools and other surfaces by washing them using water before the product hardens or with solvents once hardened.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

On highly absorbent substrates, apply a base coat by diluting Nanodefense® Eco with water depending on substrate absorption (max 5%). After this, apply the second undiluted coat using a steel spreader or roller to ensure the watertightness of the surface. If necessary, Aquastop AR1 special reinforcing mesh made of alkali-resistant glass fibre can be inserted, followed by a further coat of Nanodefense® Eco.

SPECIAL NOTES

The certified waterproofing of damp environments, kitchens, bathrooms, shower cabinets and saunas before laying ceramic and por-celain tiles, marble or natural stone will be done using a single-component, ready-to-use, eco-friendly, organic, mineral, solvent-free waterproofing product, GreenBuilding Rating® Eco 5, such as Nanodefense® Eco by Kerakoll Spa, to be applied with a roller or steel spreader with coverage of 1.5 kg/m2.

Routine maintenance: to clean, use the water-based detergent Slc® Eco Silopark, an eco-friendly floor and surface cleaning soap. Suitably diluted according to the indications on the packaging.Extraordinary maintenance: to restore aesthetic and functional continuity following wear, clean carefully and then apply Aquastop Traffic using a spreader or roller (in the latter case the product can be diluted approximately 15% with water).

SPECIAL NOTES

PreparationAquastop Traffic is ready-to-use. Before use it is advisable to remix the product inside the packaging to ensure the mixture is of an even consistency. The unused product can be kept for later use by putting the original lid back on the container.

ApplicationAquastop Traffic is applied using a smooth spreader, pressing down hard onto the substrate in order to ensure maximum adhesion to the support; when the product has hardened check adhesion of the first coat and then apply a second coat totally covering the substrate. Apply the product, in two coats, over the entire surface, including the wall joints. The second coat can be applied using a short bristle roller after diluting if necessary with water (max. 15% by weight) provided the total weight of product applied per m2 is guaranteed. The product (water emulsion) hardens by evaporation of the water it contains, so that drying times are dependent on the temperature and relative humidity during the hours following application. Horizontally laid product that is not perfectly dry risks being washed away by rain or compromised by the formation of condensation.

Drying times according to ASTM D 5895-03:Standard test for drying during film formation of organic coating

Test thickness:0.400 mm Test thickness:0.400 mm

CleaningAquastop Traffic can be removed from tools and other surfaces by washing them using water before the product hardens.
