Advent is one of the seasons of the Catholic year that is most based on scripture in the sense that we remember the entire history of the People of Israel waiting the coming of their salvation and we await the coming of the Lord both in celebrating Christmas and in preparing for His Second Com-ing. This year we will wait in hope. First we will celebrate the Blessing of the Doors of Mercy of our church on Sunday, December 13 at 4:00. With great joy, we consecrate the new doors that lead us into the presence of Jesus, the face of God's Mercy. We will also prepare ourselves for the coming of the Savior with a 9-day novena, the Posadas. We will celebrate the Posadas in the church each night at 7:30 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, December 16 and ending with the Masses of the birth of the Lord on Thursday, December 24 at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Instead of celebrating Christmas parties during Advent, we will pray that each one of us makes a home in our hearts, our apartments, our church and our community for Jesus come to life with more faith, hope, and love. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to give great importance to the spiritual aspect of preparing for Christmas and not to get too caught up in the material, consumer aspects. Let us pray together that Christ finds a home in and with us!
