Learning Through EdTech2The Student after EdTech

T he Student: I’m Anjanette E. Mendoza.19 years of age. Taking up Bachelor of

Secondary Education major in Mathematics at Cavite State University-Main Campus, Indang, Cavite.

T he Student: This portfolio will show the

topics that I have learned during our discussion in educational technology.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

• A Review of Educational Technology 1 The Educational Technology 1 (ET-1) course has truly paved the way for the learner to become aware, appreciative and equipped to use educational technology tools ranging from traditional to modern educational media.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

• Educational Technology 1 served: To orient the learner to the pervasiveness of educational

technology in society. To lend familiarization on how educational technology can be

utilized as media for the avenues teaching-learning process in the school.

To uplift human learning through the use of learning technology. To impart skills in planning, designing, using and evaluating the

technology-enriched teaching-learning process.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

• Educational Technology 1 served: To acquaint learner on basic aspects of community

education, functions of the school media center, and finally

To introduce the learner to what is recognized as the third revolution in education, the computer.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

An Overview: Educational Technology 2• Educational Technology 2 is concerned with

“Integrating Technology into Teaching and Learning.”• Specifically this is focused on introducing,

reinforcing, supplementing and extending knowledge and skills to learners so that they can become exemplary users of educational technology.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

• Educational Technology 2 will involve a deeper understanding of the computer as well as hands-on application of computer skills.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

• In essence, the course aims to infuse technology in the student-teachers training, helping them to meet and adapt to rapid and continuing technological changes, particularly in the thriving global information and communication technology (ICT) environment.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

The course objectives are:• To provide education in the use of technology in

instruction;• To impart learning experiences in instructional

technology supported instructional planning;• To acquaint students on information technology;

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

• To learn to use and evaluate computer-based educational resources;• To engage learners on practical technology;

and• To inculcate higher-level thinking and

creativity among students.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

BASIC CONCEPTS ON INTEGRATING IN INSTRUCTION• According to Pisapia (1994) in her definition of integrating

technology with teaching is that there is integration if the learning technologies are use to introduce, reinforce, supplement, and extend skills.

• Here are external manifestations of technology integration into instruction:• There’s a change in the way classes are traditionally conducted.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

• The quality of instruction is improved to a higher level in such a way that could not have been achieved without educational technology.• There is planning by the teacher on the process

of determining how and when technology fits into the teaching-learning process.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

• The teacher sets instructional strategies to address specific instructional issues/problems.• The use of technology provides the opening of

opportunities to respond to these instructional issues/problems.• In sum, technology occupies a position (is a simple

or complex way) in the instructional process.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

• Developing Basic Digital SkillsThese basic literacies will not replace the 3 Rs (reading, writing, ‘rithmetic), but they will be complemented by six essential skills to equip students for success in the millennial world. These are: 1. Solution fluencyThese refers to the capacity and creativity in problem solving.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

2. Information fluencyThis involves 3 subsets of skills, namelya. An ability to access information, access may involve not only of the internet, but other sources like the CD-ROM software.b. An ability to retrieve information, retrieved information may include not only texts, but images, sound and video.c. An ability to reflect on, assess and rewrite for instructive information packages.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

3. Collaboration fluencyThis refers to teamwork with virtual or real partners in the online environment. There is virtual interaction in social networking and online gaming domains.4. Media fluencyMedia refer to channels of mass communications (radio, television, magazine, advertising, graphic arts) or digital sources.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

5. Creativity fluencyArtistic proficiency adds meaning by way of design, art, and story-telling to package a message. Font, color, patterns, layout are elements to creative fluency.6. Digital ethicsThe digital citizen is guided by principles of leadership, global responsibility, environmental awareness, global citizenship, and personal accountability.

Learning through EdTech 2

• Educational Technology can empower teachers and learners, promote change and foster the development of twenty-first century skills. • Educational Technology has motivated the

students to get more involved in learning activities through which they become more active and more interested in learning.

Learning through EdTech 2

• Integrating Technology into Teaching and Learning This lesson teaches us to be much aware of the use of the computer. As a future educator we are giving a chance to learned how to use computer in teaching. With that, if we know and understand the use of technology in education, we can say that we have the power to teach the 21st century students effectively. So that they can also learn effectively.

Learning through EdTech 2

• Educational Technology has demonstrated a significant positive effect on student achievement and the teaching and learning processes as a whole (Bialo and Sivin-Kachala, 1995).

The student after EdTech

• Through educational technology I’ve learned that computer and other technologies can be another tools for teaching and learning process.• Through this, I’ve learned that anytime,

anywhere students and teachers can communicate with each other and students can learned something even if they’re not in school.

The student after EdTech

• Through this course, I’ve learned that technology really helps in the field of education in such a way that through the use of different technologies, students and teachers can improve their learnings about the specific subject. • Through Educational Technology I’ve learned the

propermaking of a power presentation.

The student after EdTech

Lastly, I won’t be able to make this kind of presentation without learning the concept, ideas, and knowledge that has been provided by this subject.

“There can be infinite uses of the computer and of new age technology, but if the teachers themselves are not able to bring it into the classroom and make it work, then it fails.”

- Nancy Kassebaum, U.S. Senator
