Mr. Barchetto
1st Quarter Project & Future Assignment
Hypothetical Question
If you went on a road trip to a faraway place, would you not want to document it?
Y/N HOW?
WHY?
Essential Question: What is History?Define in your own words the term
“history”
According to Webster’s Dictionary: History is… A tale, story A chronological record of significant events A branch of knowledge that records and
explains past events.
Rhetorical Question: Again I ask what is History?
History is not just what has been pounded in your head in school: names, dates and events

[Hi-“story”] is about….
Making Connections
Establishing Relationships
Forming Identities
Learning from Experiences
My “HiSTORY”
• The World at this very moment; the United States at this very moment was shaped by the [hi-“story”] of past people and events.
In a sense your life is like the [hi-“story”] of the World… The person you are at this very moment
was shaped by the people & events which have impacted you the most.
Summer Reading: Randy Pausch’s The Last Lecture
My Initial Thought … Underlying focus was goals/dreams &
achievement HOWEVER after reading the book I
could not help but think about the people & events which have made a lasting impact on my HiSTORY.
How do I expect us to know or learn about history in this country or the world if we don’t even know our own STORY. ENTER PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Purpose of My HiSTORY Project There are three primary objectives/goals
#1—Students recognize/understand the events and people which have helped impact the characteristics and the person they have become today. (1st Quarter Project)
#2—Students understand that much like their individual stories—History is a series of people/events linked to each other shaping the development of cultures, countries and the world. (1st Quarter Project)
#3—Students can identify characteristics in countries, cultures, and people. Than have the ability to determine what events/people impacted the development of these characteristics. (Future project/research paper)
My HiSTORY Assignment
Step 1WHO ARE YOU Identify FOUR(4) of your best
characteristics and explain why you believe they are your best.
My HiSTORY Assignment
Step 2WHO ARE THE PEOPLE & EVENTS in your hiSTORY who have shaped the person you are today. Your list needs to have at least TEN(10) but
no more than TWENTY(20) people/events. List of people and events should be in chronological order with description why person/event is on the list. When identifying a person make sure in your
description you identify relationship ie parent, teacher, coach ect.
When identifying an event make sure in your description you identify the month, day and year event.
My HiSTORY Assignment
Step 2Continued I realize that this list might be easier for some more
than others. I realize this list might hurt some more than others. But I want everybody to realize that this list good, bad and ugly is what shaped the individual you are today.
This list will grow and change in time. Understand that this is not the person you will be for the rest of your life. YOU CAN CHANGE
YOU CAN NOT CHANGE YOUR HISTORY…BUT YOU CAN LEARN FROM IT!
My HiSTORY Assignment
