My Animal You can use this activity when you are teaching the present simple to express habitual action. The teacher starts the activity by asking the students to think of as many different animals, birds or fish as they can. When the students call out an answer, the teacher writes it on the board. Next, the teacher asks the students to choose an animal, bird or fish that he or she can associate with. Tell them to avoid cats, dogs and other pets. The students then draw their animal. When they have finished the teacher asks them to hold up their drawings and make the noise of their animal, bird or fish. The students then complete the sentences about their animal. The students should write as if they are the animal in the first person. Next, the students work with a partner and read their sentences to each other. It might be dangerous for a tiger to pair with a zebra so the students should choose their partner carefully. Finally, have the students mingle and find the most dangerous partner they can and read their sentences to them again.
