There are many different types of genres to explore in this section of my media coursework and many different directions I can go into to create a unique and professional product. These are some of these genres.

Indie Rock

Conventions : The genre conventions of indie rock in a music video would be usually be 4 members of a band playing there music with a mixture of live and non live shots. Sometimes especially in indie rock music videos they use quirky videos to show their songs this is because it portrays there audience as the audience is seen as alternative and different. They have both male and females people in the videos and it normally tells a story.

The audience for Indie rock is quirky fashionable and different very much like the genre of music which blends different sounds together.

Electronic Dance

Conventions: of electronic dance is high paced editing which has high contrast between light and dark. But also the footage is usually inside a concert of them playing there song and everyone is dancing. For example , Example with Changed the way you kissed me. In male videos they can consist of women in hardly any clothes in hot weather with fast sports cars where on the other hand females have backing dancers and choreographed routines. For example Nicole Sherzinger with Wet. But sometimes contemporary videos such as bounce by Calvin Harris are made which follows a story and is a sort of short film.

The audience of electronic dance is young people aged 10 to 30 who go to clubs and party's.

Dubstep

Conventions: You would normally find in Dubstep videos they are fast paced edits and can contain violence and dark scenes. For example Skrillex with equinox. A lot of videos follow a story and have shots from them performing live. For Dubstep a wide variety of video are made from short story to in concert videos and actual footage of them performing. A video which has both of these is Modestep with Another day.

The audience of this music is people aged 10 to about 30 male and female.

R&B

Conventions: In a lot of R&B videos there is normally a lot of male and female people either in or around a beach area with sunny weather and minimal clothing. They are usually sexual and portray wealth with nice houses and fast cars. Pace of editing is slow than in electronic of dubstep videos. An example of this is can be seen in Rihanna's Rude boy which is extremely sexual and another example is Justin Beiber with Boyfriend. The audience is people aged 10 above, as not all videos contain this behaviour but it is the convention and image people have when they think of R&B.

POP

• Conventions: Pop videos usually link in with the lyrics of the song. Plus the videos are a lot brighter and use more vibrant colours as pop music is aimed at a younger audience. Songs are more upbeat and editing is fast paced but with more soft transitions. It is aimed at children from as young as 3 to 18+. These are videos such as Friday by Rebecca Black which is cheesy but has a strong video which link in with the song.

Hip hop and Rap

• Conventions: On a lot of the videos low angle shots of them rapping to the camera and getting up close to the camera are used. Many women can be found in their videos just standing around or dancing around the artist. Mostly sportswear is worn like American basketball jerseys and football. A lot of money and cars can also be seen in majority of the videos. This genre is aimed at people 18 above male and female as most songs contain sexual ,violent and strong language.

Review

• These are the main types of genres in music yet I’m still not 100% sure which one too chose let alone if I chose any of them. As I might go for another genre such as Chilled, Ambient, heavy rock or Jazz I’m yet to decide.
