OVERALL EVALUATION

My beginning ‘Contents Page’:

This was the starting page for my ‘Contents’ during this Media coursework task. I changed a great, deal of features and factors within this page due to change of opinion, concerns, at times the theme wasn’t necessarily being presented well etc.

The structure of the graphics at this main stage, was fine, there was no certain issue that was ruining or down falling the page itself. The image placed in the middle, is an image of my ‘Front-Cover’, I used it on my magazine to help show the repetition and again, making the idea of the band stand-out to the readers. Saying this, I did come across this idea from an example that I found on the web.

‘Music Magazine’ beginning images

Whilst undertaking within my ‘Music Magazine’, I had a variety of different results before finally producing my final pieces for my ‘Front-Cover’. This is the creation of steps throughout my work, leading up to my final production. These images carefully illustrate some practice shoots for my photos; I was using one band member for this common example but as we can see, this is a practice image for the ‘Front-Cover’ but never actually was properly drawn together.

One of the main issues with these images, not one in particular but the shot type was not close enough. Although for the ‘Front-Cover’ main image we did not need to necessarily use a graphic that was a Mid-shot (MS), I would have preferred to use one as I would feel personally more involved with the band members. Throughout deciding the final image for my ‘Front-Page’, I kept changing my mind. This is why I used a great, deal of practice shots to help me as I knew I would be more likely to change my mind. My performance throughout this task was positive. I relatively enjoyed taking images and I did not have a lot of experience beforehand, this is why I used some secondary market research to help me with my participation; it was extremely easy and non-sophisticated to apply myself towards.

‘Double-page-spread’ practice images:

These are the particular images that I captured in order to test for my ‘Double-page-spread’, some of these graphics being illustrates were actually used and undertaken within due to the positioning stance and connection with the basic storyline. As the main storyline for my production of work was addressing and band break-up between the band besides one previous member who did in fact leave, I wanted to choose images that would best reflect the story to help make the final piece make sense whilst addressing my readers. I have used two main band members as one member quit and the other a symbol for the whole band.

Examples for my ‘Contents Page’:

Throughout the development of my ‘Contents Page’, I was undertaking within both primary and secondary market research but for this case, typically mainly secondary research; examples include searching the web, looking at real-life magazines etc. these are some of the main examples that I thought personally best influenced my creation of my own work and so therefore, I followed through with them during the period of time of making my ‘Contents Page’:

Examples for my ‘Double-page-spread:

I have been using particular graphics to help me create my own ‘Double-page-spread’. I did not necessarily need to use more than two examples, but for me personally, it helped me to gather and understand the typical conventions in much, better details like the master-head, images, text boxes’, special features etc.

This certain image, was my main influence. Comparing this real-life example with my final piece of work, I can evidently see the features that I have deliberately used in order to create the same effect and purpose; this influence is similar to my final production piece as I used the same format to lay-out my graphics and I too, promoted them in the grey scale.

Examples for my ‘Front-cover’:

These are the certain examples that at the beginning of this work, influenced my perspective and thoughts about how I would like my own ‘Music Magazine’ ‘Front-Cover’ to look like. I particularly like the certain conventions that are being conveyed; such as the positioning of the master-heads, the sell-lines, the ‘Mise En Scene’ approach with the costume and hairstyles of the band members etc.

More practice graphics for my ‘Front-Cover’:

The graphics being illustrated, are the particular images that I captured in order to help me gather a useful, variety of images that would give me much more of a better, collection to choose from. These images were easy to take, I had a particular planning technique with each, individual band member- I took at least (5) images for each person, to give myself a taste about the different position stances etc.

The ‘Mise En Scene’ aspect of these images, covers particularly the deliberate costume. I dressed the band member in a chosen, selected outfit to help fit with the main purpose and theme of “rock” but more importantly, the vital genre of ‘Music’. I thought personally that a plain band t-shirt would help to relate the connotations of loud, artistic themes, nothing too bright but nothing too dull which lacks the readers interests either. I believed that if I selected a bright, contrasting colour scheme for the band member, my readers would not gather the full interest or relation of “rock”, I thought that people would see it as too casual and outgoing when of course ‘Music’ is outgoing, but this is a different perspective in my personal belief.

Aspects of using ‘Photoshop’ for my work: Whilst carrying through with the creation of my ‘Media Magazine’, I used ‘Photoshop’ to help me figure out some new techniques with a particular graphic, how to remove certain unwanted backgrounds, change of colour etc. these are all of the features that I wanted to apply with my images. Using a site on the web called: ‘Dafont’, I was able to come across a variety of different font styles, too.

Changes in my ‘Double-page-spread’: As I was continuing throughout my ‘Double-Page-Spread’, I continued to develop my stages, I also used ‘Photoshop’ for this section of my work too.

Changes with my ‘Contents Page’:

These are the changes for my ‘Contents Page’. I have been adjusting the different, position stances for my graphics, I could not decide on a main lay-out to in which I wanted to continue with so I had the task of swapping around different images to see which stance best fitted my page.

The font styles as to which I decided to use, too changed along with the structure. Compared to my final lay-out, these illustrates examples of my work are particularly different and so therefore, these images help to present the period of time during my work. My performance during the creation of my ‘Contents’ steps was both positive and negative. I say negative because I could not make my mind up in enough time to continue with different aspects, too. These aspects involved the lexis, market research etc. although I did eventually undertake within acts of both primary and secondary market research, I could have spent longer time on them.

Further stages with ‘Photoshop’:

I used ‘Photoshop’ a lot during my work for all three pieces: ‘Front-Cover’, ‘Contents Page’ and ‘Double-Page-Spread’. I have saved images with capture the process of saving my work and the different style of fonts which I developed and worked with. Again, I did not find these tasks difficult, I have a lack of experience with the programme but once I used a first, image the rest was simple to understand in terms of removing a background and so on.
