NOTES:

1. All music majors should begin the Music Theory and Practice (MUS 1A/1B/2A/2B) and Ear Training (MUS 7A/7B) sequences their first Fall Semester of enrollment.

2. All music majors are required to enroll in an intermediate or advanced course in their chosen performance specialty (instrumental, piano, guitar, or vocal) AND participate in a Large Ensemble each semester they are at FCC (for example: band, choir, orchestra, jazz combo).

3. Some of the above courses may have prerequisites. See the catalog or schedule of classes.

4. All students intending to transfer to a 4-year music program should anticipate piano competency exams at that institution. Enroll in Beginning Piano MUS 20 to prepare.

5. All students interested in a music major should read the catalog and consult with music faculty and a counselor as soon as possible.

6. General Education and Degree Requirements for the A.A. or for transfer should be taken in addition to major requirements. Transfer students planning to transfer in two years will probably need to attend summer sessions to complete these requirements.

7. The Associate Degree requires completion of the major (37 units) with a “C” or better grade in each course plus the

completion of the General Associate Degree requirements – basic competencies, physical education/Dance, and lifetime physical and mental wellness – and General Education requirements for a total of 60 semester units minimum with a 2.0

or better GPA.
