Musculoskeletal Disorders or MSDs are injuries and disorders that affect the human body’s movement or musculoskeletal system (i.e. muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, discs, blood vessels, etc.)

MSDs are the result of multiple risk factors

Not everyone with an MSD has ergonomic exposures at work, and not everyone exposed at work develops an MSD. Contributing factors occur both at work and at home.

Early intervention strategies seek to prevent MSD’s from occurring by providing employees the tools they need to address signs of fatigue and discomfort.

These injury prevention tools include:

• preventive warm-up exercises • proper lifting techniques • proper body mechanics • identification of ergonomic improvement opportunities • preventive counteractive stretching exercises • proper resting/sleeping posture • strengthening exercises to maintain muscle and joint balance • fatigue recovery and sleep • proper hydration, proper nutrition • adopting good health habits • personal fitness and wellness
