MURDER/SHOOTING ANALYSIS 2013
The F.B.I Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR) establishes all guidelines and procedures for the submission of crime data to the State UCR Program Coordinator (State Police). Murders are counted at the time that Homicide Investigators have determined that,
after investigation, an intentional killing of a human being by another has occurred. Clearances of murders occur when at least one person suspected of committing the murder is taken into police custody for prosecution. Clearance rates are determined by taking the total
number of murder clearances for particular month/year and divide that number into the number of murders counted for that same month/year. It is important to understand that UCR allows adjustments (e.g. clearances, reclassification, unfounded, etc.) from previous submitted
months to be made the month that the adjustment becomes known to police.
