November is here and so are many great things that the PTA has going on for our students and community.

The Food Drive has wrapped up with many items donated to the Strongsville Food Bank. This was a great

opportunity for our students to give to other families in our community. This then brings us into the Coat

Drive that is underway until the end of November. We are collecting coats and other cold-weather gear to be

donated to a women's shelter. Please place gently used or new items in the collection bin located in front of

the school office. Thank you to Ann Marie Ong and her committee for organizing the food drive and the coat

drive.

The Halloween parties were a huge success! Thank you to all the room parents and volunteers who continue

to provide our students with fantastic parties. Thank you to Nancy Lewandowski for organizing the room

parents.

Strongsville Council PTA is hosting a special workshop - ― Rachel's Challenge‖ - November16th at 7:00 p.m. at

Center Middle School. This is a FREE event, and the public is encouraged to attend. Some material may not be

suitable for younger children. For more information please visit www.rachelschallenge.org.

Pizza night at Marco's was a great success! The PTA raised $362.64 through this fundraiser! Marco's night will

continue to be the second Wednesday of each month. Please mention Muraski PTA when you place your food

order!! Thank you to Laura Housum, Michel Price and their committee for organizing this delicious fundraiser.

Muraski Spirit Wear orders are now being taken. Orders will be due November 18th with delivery of spirit

wear the second week of December. For more information please contact Kim Begany @

[email protected].

Another great service that the PTA provides for our students and families is Santa Shop. Santa Shop will run

December 13th -15th, with additional shopping time on Thursday evening (please bring your camera!). For more

information see the Santa Shop article.

Reflection entries are due January 4th 2012. The theme this year is ―Diversity Is....‖. Handbooks and entry

Thanks to everyone who ordered pizza from Marcos last month. We received a check from Marcos for $362 just because you ordered dinner from them. They also gave a free pizza party to the class that had the most pizza sales - Mrs. Tedeschi’s fifth grade

class won for the month of October. Way to go!

We will continue to have Marcos Pizza nights once a month. What a great way to earn money for our school and have an easy family meal at the same time!

We just kicked off another fundraiser with the Kids Stuff coupon book. Muraski PTA gets fifty percent of the profits for this book. Check it out! They make excellent

Christmas gifts!

We thank you for your ongoing support! It is only because of you that we are able to continue to support the Accelerated Reader program, Assemblies, Bingo Night, and

much more.

Coat Drive

Ann Marie Ong, [email protected]

Don't forget...The coat drive runs the entire month of November. We are asking for donations — new or

gently used — of winter items such as coats, boots, hats, gloves, and scarves. Men's clothing and blankets

are also requested. All items will be donated to the Redeemer Crisis Center in downtown Cleveland. For

more information, please refer to the flier in this issue of the Monitor.

Thank you for your generosity!

Founder’s Day 2012

Each year in February, PTA’s across America celebrate the founding of National PTA. We also

take time to honor individuals who demonstrate commitment to the principles of PTA which are:

Advocacy on behalf of children

Education and support for parents and families

Encouragement for parent and community involvement in public education

If you know someone who you believe embodies these characteristics, please nominate him or her

to receive the Ohio PTA Achievement award. The person does not have to be a PTA member. It

could be a parent volunteer, a teacher, a coach, anyone who works for the betterment of children

and families in the community.

Strongsville PTA Council will present the Achievement awards on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at

the Strongsville Recreation Center.

If you would like to nominate an individual to be Muraski’s recipient of this award, please do so by

Friday, December 9, 2011. We will vote for the winner at the PTA General Meeting on Wednes-

day, December 14th. Ballots must be cast during the meeting on December 14th.

Please complete and place the attached Nomination Form in the PTA mailbox by December 9th.

Or, email nominations to [email protected] or [email protected].

Spirit Wear Kim Begany, [email protected]

It’s time to order Spirit Wear for your Wildcat and Mustang fans. The attached order

form should be printed, completed and returned with payment by November 18th.

Orders will be delivered the second week of December, so these items make great holi-

day gifts!

Please note — We are ordering the Spirit Wear from a new vendor this year. No extra

pieces will be available at the Spirit Shop at the Recreation Center.

Food Drive

Ann Marie Ong, [email protected]

Muraski Food Drive....Together We "CAN" Congratulations to the Muraski community for donating 1,881 items to the Strongsville Food Bank during Muraski's recent Food Drive. Third grade was the "most generous"

grade level with a total of 401 items, but fourth grade put in a tough fight until the end donating 388 items.

Thank you to the following Food Drive volunteers without whose help the Food Drive would not have been possible: Sarah Bass, Stacie Baughman, Gretchen Beck, Carrie Dewes, Shelley Estrela, Karen Fraser, Laura Housum, Carol Kovacs, Deanna Laurell,

Melinda Lottig, Michelle Mercuri, Jennine Minch, Jen Niederhausen, Heather Onorati, Re-nae Reinhart, Heather Ren, Linda Savel, Anne Stephan, Donna Stephens, and Tara Widg-er.

Special thanks to Mrs. Peters who did a great job announcing the numbers each morning and encouraging participa-tion from everyone. The Muraski staff also needs to be thanked for all of their support for this worthwhile cause. Several of the teachers referred to it during parent/teacher conference day, and many, if not all, of the teachers re-

quired students to write it in their assignment notebooks. All of this promotion certainly aided in the success of the Food Drive.

Thank you to Mr. Martin who was so accommodating throughout the entire week. He saved us many boxes, plus he helped to load the cars each morning.

Finally, thank you to the students who brought the donations to the cafeteria each morning. Some of the teachers rotated the volunteers, so I won't list any names for fear of excluding a student. Again, thank you for your participating in the Food Drive, and showing your generosity to the Strongsville communi-

ty. Congratulations on a job well done!

Santa Shop Maria Wayne, [email protected]

The Santa Shop will be open during the school day from Tuesday,

December 13th, through Thursday, December 15th , for the children to shop

for their family and friends. You will be receiving information later as to

what date your child will be able to go with their class to shop.

New this year; the Santa Shop will also be open on Thursday, December

15th, in the evening from 6 p.m. – 8 p. m.!!! Please bring your child that

evening too for them to shop, and feel free to bring their siblings and

friends! We have a special holiday surprise planned at this evening event you won’t want to miss (all I

can say for now, is don’t forget your cameras! More details to follow…)! Mark it on your calendars

now!

Also, the vendor selected this year is giving 10% of sales proceeds back to Muraski, too! All in all, this

will be a really awesome event for the kids because they are focused on giving to others, and our school

will be receiving some much-needed financial benefits, as well. Looking forward to it, and I’m sure your

child is, too!

If you have any questions, please contact Maria Wayne at 440-846-0561, Santa Shop Committee Chair
