What?Disney’s Beauty and the Beast tells the story of a young girl who falls in love with a prince who had been cursed by an enchantress. Belle, a girl misunderstood by many in her community, spends most of her free time getting lost in books, completely unaware that men like Gaston are trying to pursue her. When her father gets lost on his way to a fair, Belle goes out to find her father, and stumbles upon a castle that is home to talking objects such as a teapot and a clock. As prisoner to the castle, Belle learns that the Beast is not as scary as he comes off to be. With kindness and a lot of patience, the Beast and Belle fall in love and break the curse that had been put on Prince Adam so many years ago. And just like every other Disney movie, they live happily ever after.

How?

Disney has always played a big part in my life and being a Disney fanatic, everything from movies to the amusement parks are some of my favorite things. As a little kid, Disney movies were my first pick and being a girl who loves to read, Belle was my dream princess. The story of a girl who falls in love with a beast, although he turns into a prince, shows that sometimes it is not what is on the outside that matters.

Why?While a movie about a princess falling in love does not seem like such an influential story, there are bigger and more meaningful lessons that are hidden so that as you grow with the movie, it no longer seems like a girl finding a prince but instead gives you advice to use in your daily life. Some of my favorite lessons that have helped me become the person I am have come from Disney movies, and some of the best have come from Beauty and the Beast:

Dare to be DifferentIf Belle’s father stayed confined to society, then he would not be

the prize winning inventor that he became. Also, there would be no story because then Maurice would not have been on his way to a fair when he was taken into the castle, and Belle would have not had met the Beast. Sometimes it is okay to be different, do what makes you happy and it will not matter what other people think. Just do you.

Love can be stronger than hateThe Beast may hate himself because of

being cursed, and Gaston may hate the Beast for holding Belle as “hostage” but in the end, Belle and the Beast win by falling in love. Even through all the bad times and troubles, love can still be stronger and lead to a happy ending.

Don’t judge a book by its coverWhen Belle first meets the Beast, he seems

like mean and scary character but throughout the movie changes to be approachable and a lot less mean. While on the outside he looked like a Beast, Belle was able to see through his looks and fall in love with the guy who was stuck inside. The same lesson can go for Gaston, while he may be a handsome man, on the inside his ego is more important than anyone else.

Evaluate

Many people think that Disney movies are just for kids when in reality, everyone can learn a lesson or two from any movie created by Disney and Pixar. Creating movies that children and adults can watch makes them more valuable than a movie that is only for a specific audience. As one of the largest companies of the world Disney creates movies and amusement parks that people of all ages, and any culture can enjoy. Disney is one of the universal connections of the world because of how influential their products are. Media of Distraction:Beauty and the Beast fits this metaphor because it is an escape that we can use to spend our leisure. Watching the movie can be a good way to bond with friends or family, and also allows you to take a break from your busy life to enjoy a movie that is set for all ages.

Engage

One of the selling points of Disney products is that around the world the stories are the same. No matter what country you are in, Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, and Winnie the Pooh are all recognizable figures. People travel from all over to go to a Disney park, whether it be in the United States or abroad. Disney movies such as Beauty and the Beast can connect people from different cultures and bring them together for the same purpose. In today’s society, Disney is a cultural and social symbol that is larger than any language barrier and continues to grow and achieve to connect the world.
