Program Title: Captain Pen and the Pirate Penguins: Search for the Golden Minnow Interactive Grammar Game

Grade or age level(s): 3rd Grade

Major Goal: Students will demonstrate their ability to identify basic English

grammar. Amount of Time to Learn the Content: 20 minutes System Requirements: Microsoft Windows 7, 512M RAM, internet connection, Flash

player 9.0, audio card, and speaker.

2. Program Description

Characteristics of Target Learners: Students are at the 3rd grade level in grammar and reading. They have been given classroom presentations on basic grammar to include: common nouns, proper nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, and simple subjects. This multimedia project is to extend the student’s knowledge of 3rd grade level grammar and reading by participating in a visual story that requires interaction by solving clues based on grammar principles to advance to the next section. Instructional objectives:

1. The students will identify common nouns from a list of words.

2. The students will identify proper nouns in a sentence.

3. The students will properly use pronouns in a sentence.

4. The students will identify adjectives from a list of words. 5. The students will identify adverbs from a list of words. 6. The students will identify simple subject in a sentence.

ii. That runner fell down. (Where?) iii. The people taking tickets worked quickly. (How?) iv. Marathon runners run far. (How long?)

8. Choose correct tree a. Window Message: Choose the correct based on the clue you were given and then

move your mouse of it and click. The image will then allow you to see the tree 9. Simple Subjects

a. Window Message: The simple subject is a noun or pronoun that tells who or what a statement is about.

10. Open Chest a. Window Message: Identify which noun or pronoun is the subject of each

statement by clicking on them in the sentence. The subjects will be placed in the proper order next to the key pad. Click on each noun or pronoun on the key pad in the same order as they are listed to open the chest.
