MULTI-CULTURAL LITERACY
Copy-change Process: borrow the structure and ideas of the original passage, but add your own images and ideas.
(Example-Handout)
WHAT’S IN A NAME?
On a piece of paper, compose a sentence, like “Original Sentence 1”, of your own using the following guidelines:1. Use as few or as many words from the original as you wish.
2. Stay close to the structure of the original.
3. Use approximately the same number of words as the original.
WHAT’S IN A NAME?
Look at “Original Sentence II” and predict what words will be borrowed, and which will be replaced with substitutes.
Compose your own sentence based on “Original Sentence II,” following the same guidelines you used for “Original Sentence I.”
WHAT’S IN A NAME?
Look at the excerpt from The House on Mango Street. Notice the rhythm of the passage.
Create a copy-change version of the excerpt that focuses on your own name or the name that you investigated last class period.
Use your previous research homework, your connotation/denotation homework to complete the assignment.
