In today’s competitive business environment, managers in the manufacturing sector are faced with unique leadership challenges, which is further compounded by a shortage of people with competencies essential to high growth industries. To address this need, BITS Pilani has worked with manufacturing industry leaders to identify the knowledge and qualities necessary for managers to compete in the constantly changing global environment. The M.Tech. programme in Manufacturing Management is offered with an intention to develop aspiring professionals into technology leaders who possess in-depth, relevant manufacturing knowledge, bridging manufacturing engineering and management. The programme approaches manufacturing as a global enterprise and seeks to empower its graduates with a unique set of engineering, business, and quality skills that enable them to be effective leaders in their workplace and domain. The programme has been designed for working learners who aspire, or have been identified by their employers, for future leadership roles.

PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS• M.Tech. Manufacturing

Management is a four semester programme

• Students get an operational and strategic perspective which enables them to effectively plan, design, organise, implement and maintain the manufacturing system.

• Provides rich set of resources for research and experimentation. Simulation software such as FlexSim, Matrix, ‘R’, TORA and other engineering software to gain practical experience in analytics, analysis and design of products and manufacturing systems,

• Lab exercises and assignments on relevant topics for experiential learning.

• Well-defined work integrated exercises to transform classroom learning into practice.

• Guided project at the workplace to assimilate and implement the learning from the coursework.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVESThe main objective of the M. Tech. programme in Manufacturing Management is to provide practicing engineers a foundation that helps them engage in continuous professional and organisational

development in response to technological and system management challenges in manufacturing. In the programme, students learn how to manage the technical and business processes involved in new product development and in production; to develop and apply modern methods to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of the system, and be well versed in the knowledge and implementation of maintenance techniques for achieving a breakdown free production process. They also get to enhance decision making skills and be able to design, select and implement effective and sustainable manufacturing strategies. The programme will develop the student’s skills in providing leadership in managing people, projects, processes, resources, product development and operations; and in managing innovation and change. With this knowledge, programme graduates can look forward to leading departmental and cross functional teams in synthesising new strategies and in designing, planning and controlling operations and projects with confidence and effectiveness.
