Leo Tolstoy said, “Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” This inner transformaon can only come about through relaonship with the living God and is the only thing that can ever really change the world. To Year 12 - FarewellI thought I would begin my farewell to you with a paraphrase of some Psalms included in a book of devotions edited by Rowland Croucher called Still Waters Deep Waters:

Year 12, you leave with our blessing, our love and our prayers. May you continue to grow and mature into Our Lord Jesus Christ, for it is only in and through Him that you can truly find purpose and fulfilment that will satisfy.

God will continue the work begun in you before the beginning of time but this is dependent on accepting Him as your Lord and Saviour. Don’t be satisfied with the world’s doctrine of instant gratification; the call of God means we live in a world that moves beyond the surface to the depths. Leo Tolstoy said, “Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” This inner transformation can only come about through relationship with the living God and is the only thing that can ever really change the world.

Jesus has freely given you the gift of salvation, so hold onto it for all you are worth and remember that whilst freely given it came at an inordinate cost to God. Commit to an odyssey, an adventure that will be like no other, where the centrality of the Gospel message frames your whole existence, a counter cultural existence where you serve the needs of others and be a shepherd leading many from darkness to life.

ChapelIn the original "Karate Kid" Movie, young Daniel LaRusso is counselled by Mr Miyagi against retaliating when he uses the following wise words, "You will be digging two graves, one for your enemy and one for yourself." Proverbs 30:33 says, "...and as twisting the nose produces blood, so stirring up anger produces strife”, and in Galations we are warned that we reap what we sow. All good reminders to follow the 'Golden Rule' taught by Jesus and reiterated by 5M in Chapel last week: Do unto others as you would have them do to you.

BasketballCongratulations to all teams who represented the College earlier this week at the CSSA Hunter Zone Tournament. The Junior Boys made the Final and were narrowly defeated while both Junior and Senior Girls Teams were triumphant and will represent Hunter Christian Schools in the upcoming NSW CSSA State Gala Day. Many thanks to all accompanying parents and especially Mrs Munro and Mr Matthews who coached and managed the teams.

Christmas BoxesWe are aiming for 500 boxes to send to needy children this Christmas. How fantastic it would be if every child in Junior School could return one in the first week back after the holiday break.

ElectivesGiven the busyness of next term, we will only have time for four weeks of Electives: 18 Oct, 15 Nov, 22 Nov and 29 Nov. Children will make selections during the first week back before the first round of Electives commences on Friday of Week 2.

UniformJust a reminder that all students need to be in full Summer uniform from the first day back of next term.

GPBC Kids ClubSomething new and exciting is coming to Thursday afternoons in Term 4 – Green Point’s very own Kids Club! Give the TV cartoons the day off, and instead come along to be part of the fun. There will be some awesome games, afternoon tea, craft, music, cooking, sports and more!

When: Thursdays 3.15 pm – 5.30 pm during the school term. Teachers will be informed of which children are registered for Kids Club so they can walk over when school is finished.

Where: The Jacaranda Room (the level above the Church Office and Little Coasties)

Who: All of Primary School, Kindergarten to Year 6.

Cost: To cover costs we are asking for $5 per child for the afternoon, or you can book in for the whole term for $40.

SRC Middle School Disco19 September- Raising Money for Our Sponsor Children

The Middle School will be having an end of term Disco on Thursday 19 September, from 6.45 pm - 8.15 pm.

Entry will be $5 which includes entry, a drink and a packet of chips. Drinks and Hot Dogs will also be available for $2 each.

Students are to wear modest, respectful and respectable clothing and closed in shoes. The disco will be supervised by Middle School Staff and Parents. The success of this event will determine whether we have discos in the future.

This will replace the end of term Reward BBQ for Term 3 only.

Central Coast Chess Championships from Mr WrightCongratulations to the following students who represented the College so admirably at the Central Coast Chess Championships at Wyong on 12 September: Jordan Grillo, Dylan Hall, Sean Spence, Jack Wright, Daniel Irazabel Tom Hibbert, Sean Campbell, Harry Van Vliet, Braden Wooding and Kaine Pettiford.

A special congratulations to Jordan Grillo (Year 11) and Dylan Hall (Year 8) who both had five wins from their seven games. Another fantastic and engrossing day of chess.

The Chess Club meets in H12 every Tuesday. All students are welcome.

I would like to thank a number of people. Firstly, Mr Graham Crawford who has been this group’s Year Adviser for the past three years needs a huge THANK YOU.

He has been great at supporting and at times admonishing this wonderful group of students. Thank you for the many hours you have given to these students and the hours spent in prayer for each and every one of them.

I would like to thank all the teachers who have put in hours and hours of work preparing these students for the HSC exams in the near future and for all the care and love that you give to students that have gone through the highs and lows that is the HSC year.

I also want to thank the many Year 12 students that have taken on extra roles other than that of a student. Thank you to the Prefects who have done a great job this year. You have been a major help to me over this year and it is greatly appreciated. You have helped shape the spiritual health of our College by your leadership and example. I would also like to thank all Year 12 students who have been involved in Chapel and many other roles in the College.

Now may the God of Peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the Sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen

Year 12 GraduationDon’t forget Graduation Day on Thursday at 10.00 am. Please remember that it is FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM and that includes white socks (girls), black shoes and BLAZER.

Please pray for the Year 12 students as they head out to a heavy period of study.

Acts 1:8 “…and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth.”

Scripture at Gosford East A new group of students from Year 10 trained on Friday of Week 8 to begin teaching SRE at Gosford East in Term 4. The training was led by Mrs Sally Smith, the NSW Scripture Co-ordinator from the Baptist Church. Assisted by our Local Area Co-ordinator, Mrs Ingrid Scott and Gosford East Co-ordinator, Mrs Kerrie Hadley, Sally helped guide students through the nuances of teaching Primary students and engaging them with interesting teaching strategies.

Part of the day included a visit from Pastor Tim Jones, representing ministers from our local churches who thanked our Year 11 students who taught Scripture during Terms 2 and 3.

He made the important point that the proclamation of the Gospel in our local community is the most important thing we can be doing. He was very thankful for the involvement of GPCC students. A huge thanks to the Year 11 students and their contribution this year!

Please pray for the incoming Year 10 students and their ministry at Gosford East. The team are: Heather Alcorn, Ashleigh Cameron, Hephzibah Crossing, Madi Daugaard, Bella Evans, Ben Everingham, Olivia-Grace Fotheringham, Melissa Hain, Kate Linnet, Caroline Mosey, Ruby Ranucci, Anne Spragg, Matthew Swaine and Harriet Woodrow.

Chemo CareRecently Mrs Kratochvil launched the project titled CHEMO CAREPACKS. This term Middle School students have been invited to bring items that would help cancer patients through their hospital visits when receiving Chemo Therapy. As God’s people we can serve and bless others in so many ways. Bringing in items will certainly brighten the lives of patients going through a very difficult time. It is fantastic to see staff and students actively involved in caring for our community in very practical ways!

Mrs Kratochvil’s team are planning to take these Chemo Care Packs to Chemo Therapy patients at Gosford Hospital during Term 4. Daniel Hanslow in Year 8 has organised a Jelly Bean Competition to raise money for Packs. All money he raises will be used to buy items.

The Chemo Care Packs will include things like mouth wash, hand wash, lollies, toothbrushes and Bible verses for encouragement.

If you would like to help, items can be given to the College Office, or brought to school each week and handed to SRC members during Assembly.

Earlier this year, the College Mission Team who went to Tonga were moved to act when they saw first-hand the limited resources and unsafe structure of the Kindergarten room at Hofangahau College.

We are continuing fundraising this year to contribute towards a building fund which will ensure a permanent building for Infants students in the near future. By purchasing movie tickets through the fundraiser initiative advertised in the Newsletter you are helping the students and teachers of Tonga.

Year 6 Girls' Bible StudyEach Monday lunchtime, I am reminded what a joy it is to teach in a Christian school, when a group of dedicated and enthusiastic Year 8 girls come into my class to lead a Year 6 Girls’ Bible Study.

Every week the older girls are prepared with fun activities, a heartfelt Bible Study and often delicious homemade snacks! With such lovely role modelling, I am confident that my beautiful Year 6 girls will be back when they are in Year 8 to encourage the next group of girls coming through.

A heartfelt thank you to Ashleigh Moody, Olivia Farmer, Kate Hill, Jane Spragg and Hayley Kohler for the blessing that you are to our Year 6 girls. And thank you too, to Maddison Beeforth who popped in to get to know the Year 6 girls in preparation for running a group for them next year when they are in Year 7! Anne Livette-Vial

Primary CIS Athletics ChampionshipsIt was a wonderful day last Wednesday at the CIS Athletics Championships. The weather was perfect and our team was ready.

There was only one problem, our Senior Girls Relay Team, who ran a fantastic 1:00:90 at CSSA, was hoping to better their time but was up against the wall as two out of the four members had been lying in their sick bed for the four days leading up to the Carnival and were lucky to just be there. The odds were definitely against the girls for running a good time but as these four girls have shown at every Carnival, no matter what is thrown against them, they’ll keep getting better and faster and that’s what they did! They ran a superb 1:00:54 which is just sensational and I want to not only congratulate them for this time but also thank Isabella and Bree for coming down to Sydney even though they felt like they’d rather be in bed resting. What dedication and commitment to your team!

Monique Beckett also surprised herself by throwing a whopping 22.76m in her Discus event. (she threw 19.66m at CSSA), ending up fourth overall which is sensational. What an effort!

Any student considering to play must play competition tennis and be of a high standard (as this tournament is quite challenging).

Years 7/8 OztagLast Tuesday, our Years 7 and 8 Boys and Girls side competed in the Central Coast OzTag Gala Day. We were blessed nice weather and the wind kept the temperature down. The Boys Team did a fantastic job and made the Semi-Finals undefeated. The way that these boys play any sport when they are together is captivating to watch. There is a sixth sense amongst them and cannot be understood without watching them in action. The way that they play is fair and in such great spirit. They are never intimidated nor panic when things are getting dire, they regroup and go again.

The girls were exceptional and with the majority being Year 7, they really did play well in all games. They made it to the Quarter Finals and narrowly missed going on to the Semis.

Thanks to all players and to Angela Kirk for her help in organising and training all teams.

Staff Member Holds Rugby Shield AloftLast Saturday, 14 September, Mr Chris Wellington from the PDHPE Department played in his last game of Rugby Union, captaining the Avoca Sharks 2nd Grade Team to a miraculous, come-from-behind win over the Terrigal Trojans. The Sharks held the lead at halftime 11-5. Not long into the second half the Trojans scored in the corner narrowing the gap to 11-10 with the unsuccessful conversion. The lead see-sawed back and forth until late in the game when it appeared that Terrigal had sealed the victory with a couple of tries, taking the lead 29-18.

With about 7-8 minutes remaining, the Sharks rallied and managed the cross the Terrigal line against the run of play, taking the score to 29-25. It still seemed out of reach for the Sharks who were defending their line with gusto with about 2-3 minutes to go. The Sharks' fearless Captain, knowing his team were on the brink of defeat, lead from the front and threw himself into the ruck. He managed to force the Terrigal player who had possession of the ball over, effecting the turnover. This inspiring play lifted his troops who gradually, but surely moved the ball up into the Terrigal half. By this stage, the match had literally seconds remaining and the fans were all on their feet, hoping and praying for a miracle. With one last collective effort, the Sharks managed to progress the ball into the Trojan’s 20m. A lapse in play saw the Sharks turn the ball over and hand the scrum feed to the Trojans.

SIREN SOUNDS!! There’s a unified sigh from the Avoca fans who smell defeat as Terrigal feeds the final scrum, needing only to hang onto the ball for victory. However, this game is not over and with a mighty push, the Captain and his crew, forces the turnover and throws it out wide. With only one man to beat, the halfback throws it out wide to an open player who can’t quite get a good hold of the ball. The ball goes back and after making a few passes back and forth, a penalty is called; Avoca ball. This is the last roll of the dice for the Sharks! They take the tap and decide to go left, everyone is involved. They manage to get an overlap and with two extra passes, Number 13 finds an open lane across the Terrigal line. Pandemonium as the crowd erupts; high fives all round! The captain embraces his teammates and looks up to the sky. The Goal Kicker converts and the Sharks have the victory: 32-29.

In his victory speech, Mr Wellington thanks his team mates and holds the shield aloft. It is also worth noting that two former GPCC students were a part of the winning team. 2007 graduating group, Liam Meadham and 2010 graduating group, Sebastian Thitchener played their part in the victory late in the match. Well done boys.

Operation Christmas Child Samaritan’s Purse All children in the Junior School should have received a shoebox to fill with gifts and a brochure outlining appropriate gifts to put in the boxes.

Our aim this year is to reach 500 boxes to donate to Samaritan’s Purse and bless 500 children with a wonderful Christmas. Some of our own Year 10 GPCC students will be handing out shoeboxes in Cambodia and your box could be one of them.

Please remember that all items in the boxes should be new and NOT used. Please read the brochure carefully as some items are not suitable to send and some items are actually banned by overseas governments.

Thank you for your support. We will give a tally each week as the filled boxes start to arrive at school. So far we have 4 from Year 6 (and that was before we even gave out the empty shoeboxes). Only 496 to go. Come on Green Point. We can reach the 500 target easily.

Something new and exciting is coming to Thursday afternoons in Term 4 – Green Point’s very own Kids Club! Give the TV cartoons the day off, and instead come along to be part of the fun. There will be some awesome games, afternoon tea, craft, music, cooking, sports and more!

When: Thursdays 3.15 pm – 5.30 pm during the school term. Teachers will be informed of which children are registered for Kids Club so they can walk over when school is finished.

Where: The Jacaranda Room (the level above the Church Office and Little Coasties)

Who: All of Primary School, Kindergarten to Year 6.

Cost: To cover costs we are asking for $5 per child for the afternoon, or you can book in for the whole term for $40.
