ABSTRACT:Euthanasia or Mercy kil l ing is one of the most controversial and burning issues of present day.The first section of article is about the introduction, history and types of euthanasia. The secondsection is about the world current status of legislation about i t. Third section is cardinal section ofthe article and describes about the legitimacy of euthanasia fro m Islamic perspectives. The viewsof proponents of euthanasia are analyzed in the light of Qur'an, Hadith and the views of IslamicJurists. In this section Islamic concept of Sanctity of human li fe, suicide because of unbearablepain and q uitt ing trea tme nt is discussed. The re buking p enal tie s for the pe rson who commitseuthanasia is also discussed and the expected impacts of euthana sia are also discussed. In 4thsection the decisions of Islamic consensual colleges of legislat ion are presented to bring forth thecollective decisions of Islamic jurisprudence. Kill ing a person with his own permission, the legalstatus of "don't resuscitate" order, and the doctrine of double effect of medicines is also discussed.The 5 th se cti on is a b rie f retort o f the p rop one nts o f the e uth a nasia an d reveal s the h idd enrealities relating to euthanasia. In last the summary and findi ngs of the research are presented.
