Movie Magazine Survey
I sent out a survey to 14 people asking questions about film magazines and
codes and conventions of film magazines.
Q1-What is your gender?

Male Female
This was a very important question because it let me know whether or no the people answering the survey were who my film is aimed at. It showed that most of the respondents were female (my target audience) which makes the answers more relevant to me.
Q2-How old are you?

7 This was an important question to ask because it identified whether the people who answered the survey were within my target audience age range. The majority of the people who answer were included in my target audience (15-19), but there were a few that were older. This is good because it means that the answers given will be more relevant to me when I am making my magazine cover.
Q3-Do you ever read film magazines? If so, how often?
More thanonce a week
Once a week
Once amonth
A few timesa year
I do not readfilmmagazines
This graph shows that most of the people I asked do not read film magazines, however some do- mostly once a month or a few times a year. This means that they may not be completely knowledgeable about the topic, but some will know more than others. Because of this, the answers they give might be very useful to me when creating my magazine cover.
Q4-Out of the following magazine covers, which do you think is the most effective/best to look
at?
0 2 4 6 8 10
Empire Magazine SuperMan Issue
Entertainment WeeklySweeny Todd Issue
Premiere MagazineSpiderman 3 Issue
These answers show that the clear favourite among my target audience was the Empire Magazine cover on the Superman film. This means that I should analyse and take into consideration all the codes and conventions used on this front cover and use them as inspiration when creating my own front cover.
Q5-How many people do you think should be in the main photo on the front cover of a film
magazine?

More than 3
These answers given by my target audience clearly show that I should feature only one or two of the main characters of the film on the front cover of the magazine. This will make it easier for the audience to understand who the main characters are, and what role they play in the film. I think that more than two people would make the photo/cover seem too crowded and the audience wouldn’t know what to focus on.
