Gray House

The children in Peter’s road didn’t like ‘Gray House’. It was the oldest building in their

village. Its little windows and old brown door were always closed. Hundreds of plants

grew in the garden and up the walls around the house. Some younger children were

afraid of the building. ‘Does anyone live there?’ They asked very quietly. ‘No,’ said

their parents.

But then Peter’s mother got a message. She was surprised. ‘Your grandparents saw

Gray House on the internet and bought it!’ she told Peter. ‘They don’t want to live in

their flat in the city. They want to live near us now!’

Peter’s grandparents came in their little car. A huge lorry, with all their things inside

it, drove behind them. Everyone in the village waved and smiled and came to help.

They washed the windows and floors, fixed the door and painted the walls. Then they

moved all the old plants and planted pretty new flowers outside.

‘What a difference!’ everyone said.
