1 Important safety instructionsForyourownsafety,followtheseinstructionsconcerningthemounting,startupandopera-tionofthepositioner: − Thedeviceistobemounted,starteduporoperatedonlybytrainedandexperiencedpersonnelfamiliarwiththeproduct.Accordingtothesemountingandoperatinginstruc-tions,trainedpersonnelisreferredtoasindividualswhoareabletojudgetheworktheyareassignedtoandrecognizepossibledangersduetotheirspecializedtraining,theirknowledgeandexperienceaswellastheirknowledgeoftheapplicablestandards.
− Explosion-protectedversionsofthisdevicearetobeoperatedonlybypersonnelwhohasundergonespecialtrainingorinstructionsorwhoisauthorizedtoworkonexplosion-pro-tecteddevicesinhazardousareas.Seesection 10.
− Anyhazardsthatcouldbecausedinthevalvebytheprocessmedium,thesignalpres-sureorbymovingpartsaretobepreventedbytakingappropriateprecautions.

To avoid damage to any equipment, the following also applies: − Donotoperatethepositionerwiththebackofthepositioner/ventopeningfacingup-wards.Theventopeningmustnotbesealedwhenthepositionerisinstalledonsite.

Theelectropneumaticpositionerismountedonpneumaticcontrolvalvesandisusedtoassignthevalveposition(controlledvariablex)tothecontrolsignal(setpointw).Thepo-sitioner compares the electric control signal ofacontrolsystemtothetraveloropeningangleofthecontrolvalveandissuesasignalpressure(outputvariabley)forthepneumat-icactuator.The positioner is designed depending on whichaccessoriesareselectedeitherfordi-rectattachmenttoSAMSONType 3277Ac-tuatorsorforattachmenttoactuatorsac-cordingtoNAMUR(IEC 60534-6).Additionally,acouplingwheelincludedintheaccessoriesisrequiredtotransferthero-tarymotionforrotaryactuatorsaccordingtoVDI/VDE 3845.Springlessrotaryactuatorsrequirearevers-ingamplifierincludedintheaccessoriestopermit the powered operation in either di-rection.Thepositionerconsistsofatravelsensorsys-temproportionaltoresistance,ananalogi/p converter with a downstream air capaci-tyboosterandtheelectronicswithmicrocon-troller.Thepositionerisfittedwithtwoad-justablesoftwarelimitcontactsasstandardto indicate the valve's end positions.Thepositionofthevalvestemistransmittedasaeitheranangleofrotationortraveloverthepick-uplevertothetravelsensor(2)andsuppliedtoananalogPDcontroller(3).AnA/Dconverter(4)transmitstheposition
ofthevalvetothemicrocontroller(5).ThePDcontroller(3)comparesthisactualpositiontothe4to20 mADCcontrolsignalafterithasbeenconvertedbytheA/Dcon-verter(4).Incaseofasystemdeviation,theactivationofthei/pmodule(6)ischangedsothattheactuatorofthecontrolvalve(1)ispressur-izedorventedaccordinglyoverthedown-streambooster(7).Thiscausesthevalveplugtomovetothepositiondeterminedbythe set point.Thesupplyairissuppliedtotheboosterandthepressureregulator(8).Anintermediateflowregulator(9)withfixedsettingsisusedtopurgethepositionerand,atthesametime,guaranteestrouble-freeoperationofthebooster.Theoutputsignalpressuresuppliedbytheboostercanbelimitedto2.4 barbyactivat-ingtheP9parameter.Thevolumerestriction(10)isusedtoopti-mizethepositionerbyadaptingittotheac-tuatorsize.
Tight-closing function:Thepneumaticactuatoriscompletelyfilledwith air or vented as soon as the set point fallsbelow1 %orexceeds99 %(seeendpositionfunctioninP10andP11parame-ters).

5. 15 mm travel:Keepthefollowerpin(2)on the Mlever(1)onthebackofthepo-sitioner in the pin position 35(deliveredstate).7.5 mm travel:Removethefollowerpin(2)fromthepinposition35,repositionitintheholeforpinposition25 and screw tight.
6. Insertformedseal(15)intothegrooveofthepositionerhousingandinserttheseal(10.1)onthebackofthehousing.
7. Placepositioneronthecoverplate(10)insuchamannerthatthefollowerpin(2)restsonthetopofthefollowerclamp(3).Adjustthelever(1)correspondinglyandopen the positioner cover to hold the po-sitionershaftinpositionatthecaporswitch(Fig. 16).Thelever(1)mustrestonthefollowerclampwithspringforce.Mountthepositioneronthecoverplate(10)usingthetwofixingscrews.
Note applying to all types of at-tachment except for direct attach-ment to Type 3277-5:The signal pressure output at the back must be sealed by the screw plug (4, order no. 0180-1254) and the associated O-ring (order no. 0520-0412).
8. Mountcover(11)ontheotherside.Makesurethattheventplugislocatedatthebottomwhenthecontrolvalveisinstalledto allow any condensed water that col-lectstodrainoff.

NOTICEThe process is disturbed by the move-ment of the actuator stem.Do not initialize the positioner while the process is running; only perform an initialization during start-up with the shut-off valves closed.A signal pressure above the maxi-mum permissible limit will damage the valve.Check the maximum permissible sig-nal pressure of the control valve be-fore starting initialization.
