We are so excited to have you all back on campus! Throughout this
document, you will see guidelines and protocols that we ALL need
to follow in order to keep everyone safe.
This will take a team effort and every one of us to follow these
guidelines if we want to be able to stay on campus and keep school
open. Please do your part, and make sure you are following all
guidelines. We appreciate your help tremendously!
Remember, we all must work together and follow these guidelines in
order to stay on campus.

● Guidance is provided to MMS from SUSD, Maricopa County Health
Department, and the Arizona Department of Health Services
OVERVIEW
-
• Monitor your student’s health closely and perform an assessment of
their health before leaving for school, including temperature and other
known COVID-19 symptoms, each day and do not send students to
school that are symptomatic
• Save the MMS phone number in your phone and respond to our calls:
480-484-5500
• Be sure your contact information and emergency contacts are current in
Synergy and update as needed
• Be available to pick up symptomatic student within 60 minutes
• Report a positive case to Nurse Hanson as soon as possible so that we
can begin contact tracing
FAMILY RESPONSIBILITIES

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
● Wear an appropriate mask at all times
● Distance from others
● Wash and/or disinfect your hands throughout the day
● Sanitize desks
● Follow all safety expectations
● Listen to adults on campus
● Bring a reusable water container
● Bring Fully Charged Chromebook and charger each day

• Wear an appropriate mask at all times• Wash hands with water and soap as often as possible for at
least 20 seconds
• Use hand sanitizer stations• Refrain from touching your mask• Physically distance and avoid touching others i.e., fist bump,
handshake, hug, etc. (Physical distancing will help keep you
and others safe)
General Safety and Wellness Guidelines
-
CLOTH FACE MASKS
Cloth face masks are to fully cover a person’s nose and mouth fitting snugly, but comfortably against the sides of the face and under the chin. Masks are to be of a solid material and double layered. For example, a double layered cotton mask or a surgical mask. They are to remain affixed in place without the use of one’s hands and are not to have holes or valves. They are to be laundered regularly at home or disposed ofappropriately.
• Cloth face masks are required to be worn at all times on campus/school property• Bandanas, masks with valves, etc. are not permitted• Please keep your mask on at all times unless you are seated and eating or
drinking
• There are no exceptions to the cloth face mask, all students and staff must wear them at all times (Contact Nurse Hanson at 480-484-5500 w/ concerns)

● The number of students and limitations on space do not allow us to
provide 6 feet of physical distancing at all times
● Students are responsible for and will be coached in making safe choices
in larger groups
● Students are to refrain from ALL physical contact with others (High-fives,
hugs, etc.)

DISTANCING

● Complete your health assessment to ensure you do not have
any COVID-19 symptoms
● Bring at least two masks to school
● Bring your FULLY CHARGED Chromebook & charger daily
● Bring a water bottle (only refillable water stations will be in
operation)
● Bring personal hand sanitizer (there will be multiple hand
sanitizer stations available)
PRIOR TO ARRIVAL
-
● Enter through the Student Center doors or bus lane ONLY.
Doors/ Bus gate will close at 8:15 am, at which time you will
have to check in through the front office.
● IDs must be worn at all times once they are received
(requirement waived until IDs are provided during the 1st
week of school)
● Masks worn correctly at all times
● Maintain 6 ft. of physical distance whenever possible
ENTERING CAMPUS
-
● Students will use the back outdoor patio, field or center courtyard to wait
for the bell for first period class to start. The cafeteria will only be
available for students eating breakfast. Student will be highly encouraged
to eat outside on the patio.
● Any person who would like to purchase breakfast or eat something
brought from home should do so in the cafeteria/ patio. This is the place
to take masks down, spread out, and eat at the tables.
● Every person will wear masks in the common areas and fields as
physical distancing will not always be possible.
● When the bell rings, students will exercise patience when heading to
class as to not crowd the walkways and hallways.
AWAITING FIRST PERIOD
-
• Follow the directional signs and ALWAYS keep to the right in the hallways and on stairs
• Do not congregate in large groups or gather to talk with friends • Keep masks on• No loitering in the hallways or lining up outside classroom doors• At this time, passing periods will be 6 minutes• There are hand sanitizing stations throughout the campus as
well as water bottle filling stations
PASSING PERIODS/ HALLWAYS
-
All classrooms will be supplied with the following PPE:
○ Hand Sanitizer
○ Surface Disinfectant
○ Gloves / Extra Masks
• At the beginning of each day as students enter the classroom, teachers will informally screen students for COVID-19 symptoms
• Teachers will provide for physical distancing to the extent possible and see that all students wear a mask at all times
• Paper assignments will not be passed out and collected
• Assigned seating/seating charts will be utilized to assist with contacttracing
SAFETY IN THE CLASSROOM
-
• Adhere to all the signage posted and follow teacher guidelines and expectations
• Maintain a safe distance between yourself and your peers at all times
• All desks will be facing the same direction and placed 3 ft. apart
• Please do not congregate near the teacher’s desk
• When you enter the room, please come in and be seated at your assigned seat
• No food/eating will be allowed in the classrooms
• Class sizes will vary, and may be large, but will maintain 3 ft. of physical distance between students
SAFETY IN CLASSROOMS CONTINUED

• Some classrooms at MMS are specially designed and do not contain traditional desks. These areas require a special focus and “out-of-the-box” thinking to promote
safety to the extent possible. These classrooms include: Band, Orchestra, Choir,
Theater, PE, and Video Production.
• We will support teachers to get creative in solving challenges related to distancing and contact. Students might experience unique arrangements in these classrooms and should
be flexible.
• Teachers may utilize outdoor and alternative spaces for gathering or practice to improve health and safety.
• PE classes will not require dressing out as locker rooms are closed.
• No lockers on campus overall this school year, please plan accordingly.
SPECIALIZED CLASSROOMS
-
• All houses and student center restrooms will be open daily
• Please adhere to physical distancing markers when waiting to use the restroom, wear your mask at all times, and wash your hands with soap and
water for at least 20 seconds
• The number of students in the restroom at a time will be limited to the number of stalls and sinks
• There will not be bathroom passes. You will need to sign out of your classroom to use the restroom and have your ID with you.
• Sanitizing of restrooms will occur throughout the day
RESTROOMS

● Absolutely no food deliveries to the school will be accepted
● All students qualify for a free “Grab and Go” breakfast
● Cafeteria lines will be marked for physical distancing
● Cafeteria tables are set up for the max number of students for each table
• Masks must be worn until seated at table ● Please remain seated while eating; there is no standing around tables

● Lunch will be provided as a “Grab and Go” as students exit campus,
either at the bus gate or in the student center enroute to parent pick up
● If students get a lunch as they enter a bus, they may NOT eat on the bus
● If students stay for the Afternoon Learning Lab, lunch may be eaten while
physically distanced in the cafeteria or outside, depending on
supervision, numbers of students, and weather

A safe in-person learning environment requires the support of all students.
Those who demonstrate an unwillingness to practice the safety procedures
will be redirected, coached and reminded of these mandates.
● Students that do not respect the health and wellbeing of others will be
removed from traditional settings and may be sent home.
● Administration will record blatant disregard for school safety using
discipline referrals.

COMPLIANCE
-
The District, per public health direction, will have a very low tolerance of
any student who is ill or complains of illness. Parents will be called, and
students will be isolated and sent home from school.
Simple first aid and personal needs will be handled by teachers or office
staff. This may include a bandaid, ice pack. etc. We will have direct contact
with the nurse for any concerns or to consult if needed.
Please understand that we are working together to keep everyone healthy
at school. Your partnership, cooperation, and understanding is needed to
keep everyone safe and keep our schools open.
HEALTH OFFICE

• If you are not feeling well, are experiencing COVID like symptoms, or test positive for COVID-19, please do not come to school and have your
parent notify the school nurse at [email protected]
• If you have been exposed (been around someone or were less than 6 feet away for 10 minutes or more), you will be asked to quarantine for 14
days. Please be mindful of this when gathering outside of school and
during the school day.
• If someone in one of your classes tests positive for COVID-19 and you were less than 6 feet away from this person, you will be asked to
quarantine for 14 days.

● Students will be encouraged to leave campus swiftly after the last bell
● Lingering for social purposes is not allowed
● Students who are not promptly picked up at 12:20 will be asked to
physical distance in the front of the school with masks on while students
await transportation

● While we welcome bus riders, physical distancing is not possible on
busses
● Bus riders, drivers, monitors and students, will be required to wear a mask
during transport
● Each bus will be equipped with extra personal protection equipment (PPE)
and cleaning supplies
● Daily inspection requirements will include sanitizing procedures after each
school run and at the end of the day
● Air conditioners will be used with a few windows slightly open to allow
airflow. Air conditioners will be turned to the fresh-air cycle when possible.
This will result in an increase in the temperature on the bus on hot days

● Students will be given asynchronous learning lessons to complete when
not engaged with in-person or EDL instruction
● Students will not be logging in to a class for directions, and attendance
will not be taken for asynch portions of classes
Asynchronous work could include:Viewing instructional videos of lessons in a content area
Listening to read-alouds or reading a text and answering questionsEngaging in online discussion by reading and posting responses Reading posted literary selections and annotating or responding
