▪ Touring car racing for 2.0-litre, turbocharged ‘hot
hatches’, in which a broad range of automotive brands
compete on a level playing field
▪ Brands which have rarely – if ever – raced in national level
motorsport in Tasmania including Alfa Romeo, Audi,
Honda, Hyundai, Peugeot, Renault and Volkswagen
▪ An on-track product that is fast-paced and competitive -
3 x 20-minute sprint format featuring a mix of Australia’s
promising young talents and champion drivers such as
Garth Tander, James Moffat and Michael Caruso
▪ The domestic variant of the hugely successful Touring Car Racing
formula adopted in more than 30 regions worldwide, including
the FIA WTCR World Touring Car Cup
▪ The most market relevant motorsport category in Australia
featuring racing versions of the high selling ‘C Hatch’ segment -
TCR cars are modern, recognisable and share substantial
connection to their road-going counterparts
▪ Entering its second season in 2020 after a successful debut in
2019 which saw nine different drivers win 21 races
-
▪ A new, top level, international standard ‘open wheel’ series
contested on Australian racing circuits
▪ The series that contests the Australian Drivers’ Championship
and Gold Star award – one of the most prestigious honours in
Australian motorsport
▪ The fastest racing cars in Australia – over eight seconds quicker
than the Supercars lap record at The Bend Motorsport Park
▪ The ‘5000’ in S5000 is a reference to the cars’ 5-litre (5000cc) V8
engines which produce a thunderous noise and are capable of
300kph; S5000 is also a modern successor to the legendary
Formula 5000 category of the 1970s
▪ An awe-inspiring spectacle of speed, sound and high-
speed racing – S5000 is a main attraction in Australian
motorsport
▪ A national competition for the style of high-powered
formula cars Australia had previously only experienced at
the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Melbourne or the now
defunct Indy event at Surfers Paradise
▪ The cars most likely to beat the decades-old Symmons
Plains lap record, set in 1980 by Alfredo Costanzo in the
‘original 5000’ - a Lola-Chevrolet Formula 5000
-
▪ The style of motorsport that Australian racing fans love
- loud, fast and V8-powered cars that share similarities to
the hugely popular NASCAR formula and feature Ford
and General Motors (Chevrolet)
▪ A fast-growing, popular and competitive series – the
cars in Trans Am feature simple, durable components that
are controlled in specification and cost, yet produce high
levels of performance and entertaining racing
▪ Racing with international relevance - Trans Am racing in
Australia features the same cars and regulations as its
USA equivalent
▪ Originating in the USA, Trans Am is the current evolution of
America’s legendary Trans Am Series which started in the 1960s
▪ The cars raced in Trans Am are modern, V8-powered, rear wheel
drive muscle cars featuring the body shapes of Ford Mustangs,
Chevrolet Camaros and Dodge Challengers
-
▪ A celebration of iconic Australian and American
muscle cars that fans of all ages can relate to and enjoy
▪ A connection to the golden era of Australian touring
car racing – the cars in TCM and their shapes, stance and
sounds evoke memories of similar examples raced by
legends such as Brock, Johnson, Moffat and Jane
▪ A rare opportunity for fans to see Tasmanian motorsport
legend John Bowe racing on his home circuits, including
Symmons Plains Raceway where the main straight is
named in his honour
▪ Australia’s top series for cars from the classic period of
muscle car competition between 1964 and 1981
▪ The cars raced in TCM are more 'retro' than 'historic’ -
chassis are genuine, period-built examples but feature
modern performance and safety enhancements
▪ A thundering mix of Australian muscle cars (Falcon,
Commodore, Torana, GTS) and American classics
(Mustang, Camaro, Pontiac)

A historic Baskerville trophy is firing back up in the 21st century.
The teams and drivers of the National Trans Am Series will race for the reborn Tasmanian Ten Thousand at Baskerville Raceway.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the Tasmanian Ten Thousand was the premier Baskerville race event contested by the iconic Sports Sedan category and legendary drivers such as Allan Moffat, Bob Jane, Jim Richards, John McCormack and Garry Rogers.
The modern-day Tasmanian Ten Thousand will fill Baskerville Raceway with the rumble of V8-powered Mustangs, Camaros and Dodge Challengers, as a national field of Trans Am racers fight for a $30,000 prize pool including $10,000 for the feature race winner.
-
Despite being Australia’s longest continuously running circuit, Hobart’s Baskerville Raceway is a track that few current drivers from the mainland will have seen before, much less raced on.
Australia’s southernmost racing circuit is a classic, character-filled gem. Situated in a natural amphitheatre, it’s compact, fast and undulating. Tasmanian racing legend John Bowe even likens parts of Baskerville to a ‘mini Bathurst’.
The Hobart leg of Race Tasmania will witness a new concept – the inaugural Motorsport State of Origin featuring a unique series of 1-v-1 races with Trans Am machines.
Two cars, five laps and pride on the line between Tassie and the mainland.
A separate group of cars and drivers to the regular Trans Am field will contest the Tasmania v Mainland races.
