Rejuvenation, encouragement, advice, and mentoring are all words thatcome to mind when I think of theMidwest Clinic. This was the secondMidwest that I have attended. Everythingfrom the booths to clinicians and per-formances created the energy I need tocontinue striving for greatness with myband. The Midwest Clinic, I have come torealize, is where I recharge my batteries.
The Midwest Clinic is a wonderfulplace to meet the best teachers in theworld. This association is both enlighten-ing and motivating. Talking with thesepeople is the most important part, andwhat excites me and encourages me tocome home and be a better musicteacher. I have felt all of these things atthis year’s Midwest, and I look forward toattending again next year.
—Jermie ArnoldAmerican Fork, Utah
Once again, attendance at theMidwest Clinic has proven to revital-ize many teachers’ work in the classroom.Relevant issues in curriculum, equip-ment, planning, motivation and morewere addressed. Musicianship and reinforcement of basic skills and the symbiosis of bother were constant themes of the week.
The performances at the Clinic areinspiring. It is a thrill to see young people achieve such a high level of skilland maturity. The works performed ofteninspire an expansion of repertoire. The convention hall experience at theClinic is a value to those who attend.New music and method books are thereto be previewed. There are not manytimes or places a teacher can compareand contrast endless method books, instruments, fundraising programs and equipment options.
—Jennifer N. BayerlWaukesha, Wisconsin
This year’s conference was the best forme as a professional teacher. I learned alot of information that I know I will use inmy classroom. The sessions were verywell organized; the lectures were inform-ative and engaging. There were a lot ofhands-on and visual contributions, whichis what I really like and appreciate. Theexhibits were great and also well organ-ized. The music I heard from all groupswere spectacular on many different levels—no matter if it was a middleschool, college, or professional group, allof the music was great. The conferencewas a great experience and such an inspi-ration for me as a teacher.
—Titus PeckMilwaukee, Wisconsin
Annual attendance at the MidwestClinic stimulates and invigoratesone’s approach to teaching instrumentalmusic in the public school setting in newand varied ways. The Midwest Clinic isan opportunity not only to discover thelatest concepts, but to validate what wedo each and every day. Every year that Iattend the Midwest Clinic, I feel rejuve-nated, energized, and informed. So muchlearning happens in such a short periodof time that I am grateful that I keep anotebook of the sessions.
—Lisa M. SchutlzeBaltimore, Maryland
I attended twenty-three sessions in all. I came away from the conferencerefreshed, invigorated, inspired andproud to be a part of the profession, andalso determined to feed and nourish mymusical soul on a regular basis, to strivefor balance, and to remind myself often ofthe wonders of performance and learningthrough attending conferences such asthis.
—Mary S. WeirichCulver, Indiana
It’s that time of year again, the MidwestClinic in Chicago. I had the opportunityto attend many fantastic clinics and performances, and to visit with friendsand colleagues that I have not seen for awhile. It is a great time to learn newtechniques, to review forgotten tech-niques, to hear great literature, and tosee new/old products.
I love interactive workshops! It is onething to have concepts presented to you;however, it is another to see it beingapplied.
Not only did I attend clinics but Iattended some wonderful concerts. I have always found it beneficial for performing ensembles at the Midwest toplay a variety of graded music—youalways need to remember the elementaryand middle level ensembles.
I spent quite a few hours in theexhibits. I LOVE having access to music(concert, solo/ensemble, jazz, methods)and to published books and resources. It is nice to be able to speak with musicdealers, companies, and universities. The time spent at exhibits will aid methroughout the year and provide me withinformation and materials that I can usein my daily teaching and planning.
It was another FANTASTIC year at theMidwest Clinic and I am already lookingforward to next year.

Survey Feedback Leads to Changes
Since it was posted on the Midwest Clinic website in January, the 2005 attendee sur-vey has been filled out by more than 500 music teachers and college students whoattended the conference last year. We are thrilled with this response and by thethoughtful, heartfelt observations that have been submitted. It is deeply gratifying to readabout how important the conference is to so many of you and how our efforts to present thebest event of its kind are met by your efforts to make the most of the opportunity to attend. At the same time, it is exciting to learn about YOUR ideas for how the Midwest Clinic mightbetter serve you in the future.
We are especially pleased with the positive response to two of the new features introducedlast year: the rehearsal labs held at the Palmer House and the clinics that were repeated asecond time during the week. Based on your feedback, we plan to expand both of theseprograms, scheduling more rehearsal labs, and repeating more clinics to give you greaterflexibility in planning your time at the conference.
It is common for teachers to speak of leaving the Midwest Clinic feeling inspired, revital-ized, and eager to return to their jobs. The same is true of us. With your continued cooper-ation and support, we are excited by the opportunity to present an even better conferenceeach year. Again, thank you for making the Midwest Clinic a part of your career and yourlife. We look forward to seeing you in December.
If you did not participate in the 2005 survey, you can still do so by visiting www.midwest-clinic.org/survey.
