    2. Central Processing Unit (CPU)

    2.1 OverviewThemotherboardcomeswithasurfacemountLGA775socketdesignedfortheIntelMainstream/ValueFMBprocessorinthe775-landpackage.

    2.2 Installing the CPUToinstallaCPU:

    1. Locate the CPU socket on the motherboard.

    BeforeinstallingtheCPU,makesurethatthesocketboxisfacingtowardsyouandtheloadleverisonyourleft.

    2. Presstheloadleverwithyourthumb(A),thenmoveittotheleft(B)untilitisreleased from the retention tab.

    3. Lift the load lever in the direction of the arrow to a 135 angle.

    5. Position the CPU over the socket,makingsurethatthe gold triangle is on the bottom-leftcornerofthesocketthenfitthesocketalignment key into the CPU notch.

    4. Lifttheloadplatewithyourthumbandforefingertoa100angle(A),thenpushthePnPcapfromtheloadplatewindowtoremove(B).

    TheCPUfitsinonlyonecorrectorientation.DONOTforcetheCPUintothesocket to prevent bending the connectors on the socket and damaging the CPU!

    3. Rebootthecomputer.

    3.1 Memory configurationsYoucaninstall512MB,1GB,and2GBDDR2SDRAMDIMMsintotheDIMMsocketsusingthememoryconfigurationsinthissection.

    InstallingDDR2DIMMsotherthantherecommendedconfigurationsmaycausememorysizingerrororsystembootfailure.Useanyoftherecommendedconfigurationsonthenextpage.

    3.3 Removing a DDR2 DIMMFollow these steps to remove a DIMM.

    1. SimultaneouslypresstheretainingclipsoutwardtounlocktheDIMM.

    2. Remove the DIMM from the socket.

    ADDR2DIMMiskeyedwithanotchsothatitfitsinonlyonedirection.Donot force a DIMM into a socket to avoid damaging the DIMM.

    TheDDR2DIMMsocketsdonotsupportDDRDIMMs.DonotinstallDDRDIMMs to the DDR2 DIMM sockets.

    SupporttheDIMMlightlywithyourfingerswhenpressingtheretainingclips.TheDIMMmightgetdamagedwhenitflipsoutwith extra force.

    3.2 Installing a DDR2.DIMMUnplugthepowersupplybeforeaddingorremovingDIMMsorothersystemcomponents.Failuretodosocancauseseveredamagetoboththemotherboard and the components.

    ToinstallaDIMM:

    1. Unlock a DIMM socket by pressing the retaining clips outward.

    2. Align a DIMM on the socket suchthatthenotchontheDIMMmatches the break on the socket.

    3. Firmly insert the DIMM into the socketuntiltheretainingclipssnap back in place and the DIMM is properly seated.

    4. Expansion slotsInthefuture,youmayneedtoinstallexpansioncards.Thefollowingsub-sectionsdescribetheslotsandtheexpansioncardsthattheysupport.

    4.1 Installing an expansion cardToinstallanexpansioncard:

    1. Beforeinstallingtheexpansioncard,readthedocumentationthatcamewithit and make the necessary hardware settings for the card.

    2. Removethesystemunitcover(ifyourmotherboardisalreadyinstalledinachassis).

    3. Removethebracketoppositetheslotthatyouintendtouse.Keepthescrewforlateruse.

    4. Alignthecardconnectorwiththeslotandpressfirmlyuntilthecardiscompletely seated on the slot.

    5. Securethecardtothechassiswiththescrewyouremovedearlier.6. Replace the system cover.

    4.2 Configuring an expansion cardAfterinstallingtheexpansioncard,configureitbyadjustingthesoftwaresettings.

    1. TurnonthesystemandchangethenecessaryBIOSsettings,ifany.2. Assign an IRQ to the card. Refer to the tables on the next page.3. Install the software drivers for the expansion card.

    Makesuretounplugthepowercordbeforeaddingorremovingexpansioncards.Failuretodosomaycauseyouphysicalinjuryanddamagemotherboardcomponents.

    WhenusingPCIcardsonsharedslots,ensurethatthedriverssupportShareIRQorthatthecardsdonotneedIRQassignments;otherwise,conflictswillarisebetweenthetwoPCIgroups,makingthesystemunstableandthecardinoperable. Refer to the table on the next page for details.

    ThisjumperallowsyoutocleartheRealTimeClock(RTC)RAMinCMOS.YoucancleartheCMOSmemoryofdate,time,andsystemsetupparametersbyerasingtheCMOSRTCRAMdata.TheonboardbuttoncellbatterypowerstheRAMdatainCMOS,whichincludesystemsetupinformationsuchassystempasswords.

    ToerasetheRTCRAM:

    1. TurnOFFthecomputerandunplugthepowercord. 2. Movethejumpercapfrompins1-2(Normal)topins2-3(ClearCMOS)

    Keep the cap on pins 2-3 for about 510 seconds, thenKeepthecaponpins2-3forabout510seconds,then movethecapbacktopins1-2.

    3. PlugthepowercordandturnONthecomputer. 4. HolddownthekeyduringthebootprocessandenterBIOS

    setuptore-enterdata.

    ExceptwhenclearingtheRTCRAM,neverremovethecapfromthedefaultposition.Removingthecapwillcausesystembootfailure!

    Pin 5 on the connector is removed to prevent incorrect cable connection when usinganFDDcablewithacoveredPin5.

    Never connect a 1394 cable to the USB connectors. Doing so will damage the motherboard!
