H E H H Mother Margaret Georgina Patton lives a life of prayer and work at the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut. She graduated from Dartmouth College with a BA in English, holds a BS in Horticulture from Michigan State University and was trained as a horticultural therapist. A certified Montessori teacher, Margaret co-founded The Beatrice Ayer Patton School of Montessori in Bridgewater, Connecticut, in 1978, which continued until 1989. While a freshman in college, Margaret visited Regina Laudis Monastery and was surprised by a deep sense of vocation to enter the monastery. Only much later did she learn that there was a family connection: Regina Laudis had been established by an American-born nun, Mother Benedict Duss, who, with her fellow nuns of the Abbey of Notre Dame de Jouarre in France, had been liberated from Nazi occupation by Patton’s 3rd Army. Mother Benedict had founded Regina Laudis Monastery in 1948, in profound gratitude for this lifting of oppression. A member of the Abbey for over 30 years, Mother Margaret Georgina holds many positions of responsibility, including serving on the Abbess’ Council for 12 years. She often acts as the Abbey’s spokeswoman with the public and the media, all while maintaining extensive vegetable and flower gardens and small fruit production on the Abbey’s organic farm. In 1998, Mother Margaret Georgina and her community recorded the CD “Women in Chant”, the only Gregorian chant CD to go on to be a bestseller on the Billboard charts. They have released three additional CDs since. Mother Margaret Georgina Patton 2013 Essex Heritage Hero
