DUOLOGUE Guidelines for Duologue

Duologues may be chosen from a play, a book of duologues, or an original piece of writing.

Pieces being prepared for SQA examinations are acceptable. It is permissible for two competitors to address other characters who appear in the scene as long as these additional “imaginary” characters do not speak.

Competitors are restricted to two chairs and a narrow strip of acting space. All other props other than the two chairs must be mimed. A copy of your piece must accompany your entry form. Pieces must last between 2 and 5 minutes. Competitors exceeding the 5 minute time limit may be disqualified or asked to stop at the adjudicator’s discretion. SIGHT READING Test pieces: The competitors will be asked to read a passage from a Book provided by the adjudicator. FESTIVAL 2015: WORLD WAR 1 POETRY This year we continue the theme of the First World War which has been much featured during the past year. Such was the horror of this war that it occasioned the writing of great poetry and prose. No trophies will be awarded for these classes. There will instead be a book prize and medal awarded as appropriate to the winner of each class.
