Designed to produce compassionate physicians who will practice patient-centered medicine in a rapidly changing healthcare environment, FSUCOM uses interdisciplinary teams and emerging technologies to train the physicians of tomorrow. The Pathology Department employs about 120 commissioned officers, civilian personnel and enlisted staff, as well as maintains a Laboratory officer training program for four laboratory interns and phase II (laboratory technician) student program of about 22 personnel.

As a credentialed member of the medical staff, serve as a surgical pathologist, interpreting frozen and permanent histologic specimens; perform autopsies; interpret gynecological and non gynecological cytopathology specimens; interpret clinical pathology tests, including hematology, immunology, blood banking, immunohematology, bacteriology and parasitology, immuno serology and clinical chemistry.
