M. FOY JENKINS NAMED FIRE CHIEF FOR MORRISVILLE

Town Manager Martha Paige has announced the appointment of M. Foy Jenkins II as Fire Chief for the Town of Morrisville. Jenkins, currently the Special Operations Chief with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, Miami-Dade County, Florida, was selected from a field of 30 candidates. He was identified as one of the top candidates during a comprehensive assessment center process held in late 2016.

Jenkins, from New Bern, NC, started his fire service career as a volunteer firefighter at West New Bern Volunteer Fire Department while in high school. He brings 34 years of progressive fire service experience to the Town with certifications as a firefighter, paramedic, technical rescuer and hazmat technician. He is a Federal Emergency Management Agency/

Department of Homeland Security Urban Search and Rescue Task Force Leader and has participated in several national and international deployments. Jenkins will focus on firefighter safety and training in Morrisville.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead such a great organization,” said Jenkins. “The level of professionalism that I have seen in every staff member helped me to realize that Morrisville is the place that I want to start the next chapter of my career that has spanned almost 35 years.”

March 2017 Issue 03

Chief Jenkins will begin work with the Town on May 8.

WHAT IS STORMWATER POLLUTION?

When it rains, some of the rainwater soaks into the ground, and part of it flows over the ground and directly into creeks, streams or rivers. This water that runs off into the river is called runoff, or sometimes stormwater runoff. Clever, huh?

Sometimes this stormwater runoff gets polluted. Pollution is anything that harms natural resources, whether it is air, soil, or in this case, water. Sometimes the pollution is something you can see, like trash floating on top of the water. Other times you can’t see the pollution at all, like when motor oil from a car washes into a nearby creek.

Polluted runoff is the number one cause of water pollution in the United States, and Morrisville is no exception. Many times people pollute water and don’t even realize they are doing it. However, we can all make a difference and help reduce polluted runoff in simple ways every day.

What can you do? Visit these online stormwater resources to learn more: www.ToMstormwater.org,www.ncstormwater.org, www.NCCWEP.org.
