Installation and Lead TimesThe surface to which the glass is to be adhesive fixed to MUST be sealed, flat and smooth; Gx Glass will not fix glass to bare plaster.

All surfaces can be sealed using a diluted solution of a PVA such as ‘Unibond’ or standard emulsion, this is also relevant to substrates such as melamine.

All sockets and other electrical or multi media fittings must be disconnected and made safe by a qualified person, socket cover plates are to be removed by you or your contractor and wiring made safe whilst Gx Glass install the glass, they can be refitted carefully after the glass is installed.

The fitting of hobs, sinks or any other appliances are not included in the estimate.

For one off domestic installations Gx Glass include silicone pointing along the bottom edge unless otherwise stated in our estimate.

For contract installations Gx Glass do not include silicone pointing unless it is specifically specified and priced at the initial enquiry.

All silicone pointing is subject to on-site conditions.

Gx Glass do not include the supply or installation of fittings unless agreed at the time of the initial enquiry.

A signature from the client will be required on completion.

Once Gx Glass have left the site Gx Glass will not accept responsibility for any loss, damage or movement to the panels Gx Glass have fitted.

GX GLASS INFORMATION GUIDE | 04

SurveysSurveys and installations are managed through our installation manager; these normally require 5 days notice to attend site once Gx Glass have received your office purchase order.

Please confirm site and personnel contact details.

Gx Glass strongly recommend that a site representative is present at the time of survey to answer any question or agree / make decisions where required.

Should there be no one on site qualified to instruct us Gx Glass may not be able to obtain the information required; this may result in a subsequent site visit and further costs.

Our surveyors will have un-priced estimates and copies of the drawings used for the estimate. Please confirm they are the current version to be worked on.

Changes to Surveys or Installation DatesIf for any reason a proposed survey or fitting date needs to be changed it must be confirmed in writing, either by email or fax and sent to the installation department.

Please request confirmation that we have received your revised instructions.

Gx Glass requires a minimum 24 hours notice to cancel a survey and 48 hours to cancel an installation. If insufficient notice is given a levy may be charged.

TemplatesYour official purchase order or written instructions to proceed should include the agreed estimate details and number.

If there are any variances you must advise us immediately.

Gx Glass will book in a suitable date for your survey.

As with surveying Gx Glass require someone on site to instruct us and to sign that the template is correct and meets the clients needs.

When templating splashbacks worktops, cupboards, end panels, shelves or any other fixtures and fittings must be in their finished position.

Wall sockets are to be in their finished position.

Extractor hoods and any further drilling positions are to be identified accurately and clearly.

Please allow (6mm glass + 2 to 3mm adhesive) if fitting a standard glass splashback.

Templates must be clearly marked including Customer, job details (when available) and the face of the template must be identified.

Templates are subject to final approval for glass manufacturing processes and tolerances.

All templates must be rigid and not paper.

Completion of Survey and TemplatingGx Glass will send you an acknowledgement, please check it thoroughly and then send us an email of fax to confirm that Gx Glass can put your order in to production.

Gx Glass cannot accept verbal instructions

Upon your instruction to proceed Gx Glass will agree a suitable date for an installation based on current production lead times and your confirmed order to proceed with production.

Please see information pages on typical splashback dimensions and installation tolerances.

GX GLASS INFORMATION GUIDE1.5 TYPICAL 6MM GLASS SPLASHBACK TOLERANCES

05 | GX GLASS INFORMATION GUIDE

GX GLASS INFORMATION GUIDE1.5 TYPICAL 6MM GLASS SPLASHBACK TOLERANCES

GX GLASS INFORMATION GUIDE | 06

Typical 6mm Glass Splashback and wall cladding productThe following are guidelines for the production and installation of 2 of our products namely 6mm and 19mm

6mm glass has a manufacturing tolerance of +/- 1mm

All panels are surveyed and templated to allow a nominal 2mm gap between external edges of a panel and adjoining item. (See diagram A below)

Gx Glass can accommodate out of square panels, however Gx Glass do not scribe glass to follow irregular wall finishes other than in straight lines

CNC work is available.

If two glass panels are required to butt together there will be no gap except in shower and bath installations which have a 4mm gap for silicone beading joint

All splashbacks & wall cladding panels will be installed 2mm off the worktop or up

stand & skirting by using clear plastic setting blocks; this will be cut back prior to silicone pointing. Every effort will be made to ensure that the setting blocks are not seen, but we cannot guarantee this, the only way is for the setting blocks to be invisible is for them to be removed. This can only take place after 36 hours of installation and return to carry out the silicone pointing. If you do not want us to carry out the silicone pointing, please make this known as soon as possible, if we have to return to site there may be additional charges made. This only relates to retail installations.

Socket Cut OutsCut outs need to be a minimum of 50mm from the edge of the cut out to the edge of the glass, with a further 50mm between cut outs.

Cut outs are priced for a cover plate to sit over the face of the glass, if for any reason an item has to sit inside the cut out in the glass this needs to be made clear at the initial enquiry stage.

Gx Glass reserves the right to decline from producing a panel should we feel

that the size or quantity of cut outs will be detrimental to the safe handling or installation. (See diagram B opposite)

Fittings that are to be installed on to the face of the glass i.e. extractors, we will drill the glass to accommodate a suitable sizes nylon bush to avoid the weight of the fitting being carried by the glass.

Toughened panels have the diameter of drilled holes with an equivalent to or larger than the thickness of the glass, i.e. 6mm toughened glass will have a minimum 6mm diameter hole drilled.

If you require a panel that has different height levels along its length (see diagrams C & D opposite) this can now, subject to manufacturing and product tolerance be produced in one section. Please note that in 6mm glass the internal corners will have a minimum radius of 8mm and that the edges of the cut out section will have a water jet edge finish and not polished, should any part of these edges be visible after installation, then please let us know in your initial enquiry and we will allow for hand or CNC polishing.

Window recess: To sit glass correctly into window reveals make sure the front panels overlap the returns. This also applies to window cills.

Light Pelmet: For a neater finish, light pelmets should be fitted after the splashback has been installed. NB: It is easier to cut the light pelmet and butt it up to the glass rather than to notch glass around the light pelmet.

GX GLASS INFORMATION GUIDE1.6 TYPICAL 19MM TOUGHENED WORKTOP TOLERANCES

07 | GX GLASS INFORMATION GUIDE

GX GLASS INFORMATION GUIDE1.6 TYPICAL 19MM TOUGHENED WORKTOP TOLERANCES

GX GLASS INFORMATION GUIDE | 08

Typical 19mm Toughened Glass Worktop and Vanity Tops19mm glass products have a manufacturing tolerance of +/- 4mm

Note that all glass will scratch, mark and chip. This is especially relevant for worktops, vanity tops and breakfast bars.

Please ensure that you inform your customer of these potential issues as GX Glass will accept no responsibility for any issues that arise from a customer not being informed.

We recommend that only toughened glass is used as either a worktop, vanity top or breakfast bar

If you wish to use any product apart from toughened glass, contact the office first for technical advice

Toughened glass will have an edge mark logo; unless you specify which edge you want it on we will apply it where the operator deems appropriate.

Flush Fitting Work or Vanity TopsWhilst every effort would be made to achieve a flush finish, due to manufacturing tolerances we cannot guarantee that it will be accurate enough. We would advise having a small overhang, and any order placed has to be on this basis.

Fitting of Hobs and Sinks into WorktopsNote that not all hobs will fit into a glass worktop; to manufacture a 19mm toughened top we have to have a minimum of 20mm internal radius corners in the cut out, this may not be compatible with your hob.

This is also relevant to a certain extent with sinks. It is your responsibility to ensure that your proposed hob or sink can accommodate these radius corners.

If you require a hob or sink, there are a number of manufacturing tolerances to take into account, please see drawing E for more detail. If you require a work or vanity top that has an under mounted sink, again please note because of the 20mm radius corner in the glass, the glass top may not line up with the sink below, especially at the corners. We would normally fit the glass so that the edges of the cut out in the glass sit slightly back from the sides of the sink.

This detail stops water ingress between the vinyl backing and the paint; in addition it protects the otherwise exposed glass edge when either loading or unloading the sink.

When panels are produced using our CNC workstation they will have a minimum 20mm radius to any internal corner/angle i.e. sink or hob cut outs. Should the cut out need to have a polished finish, then, the internal corner will have a minimum radius of 25mm.

Note that once a panel has been toughened, we are unable to carry out any further edgework or drilling.

On square or rectangular panels the polished edge on an internal cut out will not match the polished edge on the external edges of the panel as two processes are involved.

Visual Variation of colourWhen installing back painted glass in the same location, for example a worktop and splashback there will be a visual colour variation as the painted surface is being viewed through different thicknesses of glass and indifferent planes.

The smaller the panel of glass the more light is transmitted through the edge. It is always worth trying samples of your chosen colour in the location where they are to be installed.

Our Surveyors will have a full set of our standard colour samples with them when they attend site to survey.

Painted glass will have subtle differences when seen under natural light than under artificial lighting.

When viewing glass whether it is just supplied, or installed by us it should be viewed at a distance of least two metres and at an angle of 90 degrees, under normal daylight conditions, if any marks or blemishes are not clearly visible then the panel is deemed acceptable.

We are unable to offer metallic or black paint finishes on 19mm thick toughened glass.

NOTE: Any worktop that requires a hob or sink cut out of 490mm depth or greater, the glass will need to be a minimum of 650mm deep. (490mm is a fairly standard hob cut out dimension)

*25mm minimum radius if the edge needs to bepolished for an undermounted sink.

Cut outs, inset sinks or hobs will have a ground finish, this is produced on our waterjet.Undermounted sinks will have a polished finish.See more details under 19mm toughened worktops.
