About the Program With the dawn of technology era, education sector is advancing into a new phase when it comes to harness the power of technology in a classroom. Newly developed teaching tools are revolutionizing the teaching and learning experience. Technology is already a large part of a student’s life outside the classroom, so incorporating it into their
education system can make a huge difference, and that cannot be achieved only by using PowerPoint presentations, smart boards etc. in classrooms! Keeping this in mind Knowledge Incubation for TEQIP, IIT Kanpur organized 5 day ‘Summer Training Program on Advanced
Pedagogy and Digital Tools’ at IIT Kanpur. Around 155 newly recruited young teachers from various engineering colleges from UP, Bihar, J&K, MP and Uttarakhand spanning several departments including Humanities, Physics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering etc. attended the program to learn from experts at IIT Kanpur about various aspects of teaching and learning with a special focus on advanced teaching and learning techniques.

The training program’s primary goal was to familiarize the participants with advanced teaching and learning tools and help them adapt new teaching technologies. It was designed to orient them on various generic aspects of digitized version of teaching learning, instructional methodologies, and assessment and evaluation techniques. More than 100 IIT Kanpur faculty and staff from different departments came together to make this initiative a big success. Young teachers were introduced to how to strategically integrate digital learning tools like MOOCs, flipped classroom, digital course material development methods etc. in their courses. All the sessions were planned to help the teachers to grasp the importance of advanced pedagogy tools to enhance the learning experience, and deliver improved outcomes. As an outcome of these efforts we can hope for well-equipped teachers who will prepare students efficiently so that when their students go into the job market they are ready for various challenges and can perform their best. The 5-day event was organized in 3 batches. Day 1 started with lectures on issues on advanced pedagogy and digital tools followed by lectures on various digital platforms and online resources available for learning and teaching. On second day all participants were divided according to their departments and departmental lectures/ discussions focused on UG curriculum were held. Participants were introduced to how to use modern learning tools to emphasize concepts NPTEL, MOODLE, YOUTUBE other internet resources etc. to teach courses from the 2nd year/3rd year curriculum.
-
On the third day departmental lectures focused on examination and evaluations. Discussions were held on online quizzes, in class quizzes,
sessional examinations, possible use of IT-enabled testing, assignments and how to design and teach experimental courses. Roundtable session with the visiting faculty were also held so that they can express their views on teaching-learning plus gaps and how can IIT Kanpur help plug the gaps.
Day four was focused upon skill development, take aways from the program and departmental lab visits were held. On the last day all participants were introduced to how to deal with student’s placement issues and how to inculcate innovation and entrepreneurship into their students.
As mentors we need to keep them motivated to evolve their teaching and research. We need to keep them involved in several activities through which they gain confidence and have a better understanding of their role as an educator. Some the following activities that can be beneficial for them: Long/short term visits at IIT Kanpur to work with/under experts. Teaching workshops MOOCs on topics relevant to engineering education. Training on how to generate new learning materials. Course on research methodologies Course on technical reading and writing

-
Different methodologies in course design, lab practices, project management and evaluation process,
practiced over here in IIT Kanpur, will be helpful in restructuring the engineering programs based on
learning objectives.
Got to know the best teaching practices and hopefully will introduce them
MOOC which can be important digital platform for academic teaching
Different teaching methodologies, approaches, preparation of coarse contents, research initiatives
Many pedagogical tools which we can use in our institute. Concept of virtual labs amazes me and can be
adopted easily in our institute without much investment.
It was really good experience for me and we learnt alot of things like how to create an environment in
classroom so that students will not get bore. We got the way to motivate the students and how to manage
to syllabus with schedule.
About the curriculum followed in iit how can we incorporate research in our courses
Improved teaching and assessment techniques as discussed with highly experienced professors here. Use
of prutor and other digital platforms for teaching as well as assessment

Nicely prepared
I think it is totally waste of time, the methods which the IIT professors use in their classes, it is impossible
to apply in our college. Whatever they taught us, they can complete in 2-3 days.
The workshop somehow lacked agenda for the department of food technology.
-
As was conveyed in the induction programme too, it is once again reiterated to consider the nature of
content during workshop. Unlike other departments there was nothing specifically relevant for food
technology.
Very Nicely arranged
Please give more time to Prof B.V.Rathish Kumar whose lecture is really useful for young faculty
Any overall feedback for the event?

Frequent interactions or mentorship with professors of IITs
My giving chance to develop my own mooc course
We are still in dilemma that what after three years. If teqip will force our universities to give us permanent positions, so that we can solely focus on our goal of teaching and research
It's giving so much teaching methodology which we can apply in our institute.
By this type of round table discussion with professor of IIT
By providing information on latest techniques of teaching
Developing Labs directly from TEQIP will help us to teach effectively , mechanical engineering is not engineering without hands on in laboratories
Teqip must talk to our college management to provide the resources like laptops and printer
Extended the September 2020 date

Arranging this type of teaching quality improvement programs. Providing coarse related materials. Access to premier institute to go and check out their curriculum, library etc.
We need additional support for teaching such as liberation from college head. TEQIP can help us by regularly arranging this type of training programs on advance pedagogy, lab courses, proving
course related materials. TEQIP/NPIU should monitor us directly. Some SPIU coming for audit is
incapable to judge or understand the real issues. College is not supporting us because the College
is run and managed by private company who kept incapable manpower at positions who don't
have any knowledge and they don't have any mentality to support.
TEQIP can help us to improve our teaching by conducting such more workshop every year and providing individual subjects material and video lectures of which we teach.
By various workshops
By organizing relevant workshops, providing e-content

How can TEQIP help improve your research?
By allowing us for internships at IIT and Foreign Institutes
Interfacing with hardware project
By CRS and by offering PhD, by financial support etc.
On duty leave , funding
Research facility should be like in IITs and NITs
By providing access to work with IIT KANPUR FACULTY
By promoting free communication between the best researchers in iits
-
Put us into Phd program at IITS.Some exception can be made regarding the course work.
Thousands of students as well as teachers will benefit.
Opportunity for post doctoral research.
I have one of my CO-PI in my CRS project from IIT Kanpur. Further if teqip helps us in making
some ways to use facilities at IIT Kanpur, that will be highly useful for us.
Need to explore new research in Analog electronics and analog VLSI Circuits
My area of research is general topology. I want to explore applications of this field.
In literature survey, an well direction in paper writing
By Providing resources like laptop, printer
Nearest NIT is NOT offering PHd
Teqip provide additional faculty to college then we will get more time for research work
If TEQIP directly involved in lab development and allocation of teaching hours equally as TEQIP
faculty getting more courses and lab to teach also they have given NBA, other work. So some
time for research work if it mentioned into institute help for research. Institute should be open for
students after 5.00 pm also so students can work on the project and research project.
By suggesting and providing facility
Giving opportunities to do part time PhD
Providing hands on training in research related tools/software.
I am a non PhD TEQIP faculty. So my first preference will be in registering to PhD program in
some good institute. If TEQIP can facilitate our admission in IITs that will be beneficial.
By providing us opportunities to work in collaboration with labs at IITs. Providing us supports to
attend conferences within India and abroad to present out works. Also providing some incentives
to the faculties for publications to encourage them to do more.
by introducing more schemes like CRS with more time duration for quality research.
Funding
To build infrastructure in our college is prime requirement.
Collaboration and short term research programs
Giving chance to interact with national as well as international researchers in my field through
conferences/workshops etc.
Make arrangements for internship at IITs and IISc
By providing opportunity to us to choose faculty member from IITs in line with our research
interest, so that we can visit the professor/institute in our free time and carry out part of our
research work in that particular IIT.
By creating minimal research infrastructure in college.
By offering Phd in IITs or through collaborative research
By allowing us to collaborate with IIT faculty of our research interest and visiting the institute in
our free time for carrying out part of our research work there and using the lab resources available
there.
By helping me in joining any research group.
By facilitating completion of my PhD (I am left with little experimentation)
By making our PhD program possible , still we haven’t got the notification despite 1 year from
the date if order.
By giving chances to involve in projects
By organising workshop on 1. how to write a good research paper for SCI/Scopus index journals?
2. How to start CRS program if application for CRS scrutinized?
By providing platform for doing PhD's and also providing more Collaborative Research Schemes
in near future
Collaboration with faculty.
Supporting instrument facility
-
There is no research environment and basic infrastructure in our institute, no support from
college, lack of spare time and leaves to go out and doing research work. some basic facilities and
little bit of flexibility can improve our research opportunities.
The basic infrastructure and facilities can be provided by TEQIP such as proper cabin with table,
chair, laptops, Almira to work. Some flexibility on Timings can improve our productivity on
research. If some more time is given to us, we will set up the labs. TEQIP has provided all the
machines and equipment but the lab is not set up properly such as water and electricity
connection, basin, Almira, distilled water facility etc etc. One expert if aligned with us, who can
guide us to setup these labs will be an added advantage.
By providing support from our institute as their are no facilities for research.
By providing mentor from iits
CRS is a good initiative. More such schemes would be helpful

What were your key take-aways from this event?
Involving Students
teaching experience and experimenting in teaching styles of IITK faculties
Discipline
It would be very helpful to teach the students with this type of advanced pedagogy what we have learned
in the workshop.
Online teaching tools
I have been triggered to simplify the conventional experiments and make them more accurate with the
current advancements in science and technology along and also tend to draw as many inferences from a
single experiment as possible. Use advancements in digital pedagogy to be more approachable to the
students for a better learning and understanding of the subject beyond the limited conventional class room
interaction time.
So many curriculum and lecture that's are very useful for me. Thanks for all faculty to give a opportunity
to come here.
Teaching methodology and basic knowledge of core subjects

Additional feedback on logistics: Activities can be more specific to domain or particular teaching tool oriented I enjoyed this workshop
Overall everything is alright
Its good
Number of theoretical lectures should have been less and more of focus for work on hand sessions for
software utility / simulations should be planned preferably in computer labs. Department wise organization
could have helped for a more efficient serving and learning.
It's good.

some speaker were like too good like Dr. Tarun Gupta and Dr. Animesh Das from Civil, Ramkumar sir
from mechanical. all these told us very interesting ways to improve our teaching But some were very slow.
A combination of ppt presentation and discussion on some techniques etc
Instead of giving 2 hr break in between lunch it can be less and respective time can be managed.
Any overall feedback for the event?
Nice and enlightening, learned from the experince of IITK faculties
Overall good
Event is organized in excellent manner
Good
Excellent
Timing was so long 9am to 6pm...I think 9 am to 4pm sufficient.lunch time reduce 1 hrs...Overall good. 1st
time I came here but lots of experience gain from here.once again thanks iitk.
It was satisfactory, well managed
Very informative
Workshop should be approx 15 days mimimum
Nice arrangements other than quality of food
It will be very much helpful for us. I learn so many things, If it will be possible I will use in our college.
All the events are excellent in management. All lectures are highly quality and we learn a lot.
it was ok but not worth spending 20-25 k per person on us. there are so many classic videos by great minds
like R P Feynman and others whose lecture would have more impact than this whole exercise. also most
lecture were centred about teaching in IIT System but outside the situation are very different
The event was good and more events like this needs to be organized
very nice

How can TEQIP help improve your teaching?
By providing efficient and dedicated faculties who could enrich the students with the recent
developments and technological advancements in the subject. Giving the opportunities to the
students and faculties for being more of research oriented.
After coming Teqip..It's very improvement. Classes and labs are properly setup in time and the
mode of smart board and smart classroom it's helpful for students as well as faculty for learning
and teaching.
By providing some resources of teaching
By conducting workshops nad induction programmes in the IITs.
By providing facility recording lecture, access to journals, fund for buying text books, PC, etc
Good training
Adaption of advance tools for teaching is very needed and TEQIP must ensure that faculties are
receiving the aids.
By providing more opportunities like this training program at the prestigious IITs.
by providing more fdp on department specific course
Continuous interaction with superior faculty members help us find solution to things that creates
hurdles
It would be really helpful if the TEQIP helps the faculty to reduce their burden resulting from
having to engage in clerical activities, which consume a major portion of the time and energy that
could have otherwise spent on preparing oneself for teaching students and related academic
activities, including the research and development of the faculty.
Quality teaching
By providing job security
By providing such type of training great help for me to improve myself
Department specific workshops
Workshop on software learning
By Giving me an opportunity to enrol into PhD from IITK, Since current rules doesn't allow so
I have got many new Ideas from this workshop, this ideas will help me to improve my teaching.
By introduction of moocs, flip classes, and even by utilization of brihaspati etc.
By providing the support from the respective subject experts in iitk. Our doubts and other
research related issues may be solved by providing us the equipment facilities available in iitk..
Its not like I don't know how to improve my teaching. by now i have attended 3 such training
programmes at different iits and frankly 50 percent of lectures ideas are repetitive. the real
problem lies in lack of infrastructure and flexibility i command at my parent institute. for example
there is no facility for ppt presentation, no freedom to design even my quiz no
system/internet/LAN to implement Moodle or Brahaspati and so on. still whatever resource i
have tried to implement these things. e.g. i take quiz on microsoft forms/ take assignments in
soft/ recommend them relevant movies/documentaries etc.
Organize some more similar workshops and also give focus on research of the faculties since
research is related to teaching
If TEQIP provides computational facility to me through HBTU Kanpur, that would help me to
prepare course material of a subject.
by organized some specific training program subject wise.
By organizing more program in different institute
We are lacking by the Teaching aids in our college We don't have necessary things that is
required for making teaching more efficient if these things will be solved it will definitely affect

How can TEQIP help improve your research?
By providing part time PhD options
Providing opportunities for part time PhD at IITK
CRS was good initiative for research.
with the introducing the new concept of simulations and theoretical concepts in easy way.
By proving better instrumental facility for sample characterization and seed funding for chemicals
and lab wares.
Teqip helps in research scheme
Make a collaboration with faculty
Through financial support as well as give me time.
TEQIP must ensure that lab where TEQIP faculties are working have basic laboratories facilities
and basic facilities like computer, printer, furniture are available.
1. It is important to provide more wide range of opportunities for TEQIP faculty to attend
workshops/courses/seminars etc. related to respective areas of specialization with the help of
which they can be in touch with the areas where cutting edge research is happening. This could
provide them increased awareness while choosing topics from contemporary research, writing
research papers or engaging in research projects. (This is important because at the level of various
institutions the TEQIP faculty are being engaged, it is seen that there are instances where faculty
are discouraged by the authorities of respective institutions from attending even TEQIP sponsored
workshops/seminars/courses etc. citing trivial reasons. This tendency curtails the research
potentials of the faculty) It could be a great help from the part of TEQIP to make the
institutions/colleges aware about the importance of their faculty members attending
seminars/workshops/courses. 2. It would be helpful if there are more options for the TEQIP
faculty to engage in more collaborative research projects.
Many schemes like CRS
By providing basic facilities and arrangements of such kind of labs
By providing tools for TEQIP faculty to explore our self
Providing research collaboration
By asking IITs to relax their norms for PhD for TEQIP Faculties
If it is possible to make a workshop for full use of different essential software. Actually in one
session of a workshop is not sufficient for learn the software.
By Collaboration and time to time interaction/ support
By providing the equipment and analytical facilities available at near host institute i.e iit Kanpur.
its already doing a lot and we are very grateful for that.
-
By conducting workshops, internships and also post doctoral fellow. Giving facility for more
collaborative research scheme
TEQIP should provide sufficient funds for conducting research work.
By providing more interaction and collaboration platform with other institute
I want to do My Research from any top IIT but TEQIP is not providing the facility to do part time
Phd from any IIT. If we get opportunity to do phd from neaarby IIT then it will be better for us.

Additional feedback on logistics:
Everything was well arranged and good
Lectures are not as per topics
Food Arrangements were good at the venue but fpod at the INTERNATIONAL HOSTEL were not up to the mark as it was during last year induction program.
It was fantastic.
Food could be improved.
Nice event arrangement by the team
Food qualities and their services are not good. .
All things are good but food quality could be improved.
Highly Satisfied way of teaching
For barh cold water should be provid In summer
Food in the international hostel was not that good as we have served earlier, rest was good.
My suggestion is about doubt session, it must be focus on each subject for computer science
It could be more about pedagogy
Satisfactory
The food served in mess should be better, for example with fruit salad in morning, the quality of rice etc.
Is good to give us opportunity to attend some lectures on subject in their live class
It's overall good
Arrangements are good

Suggest specific topic that you would like additional expert lectures on
The lectures that we attended here were just introducing us with the course content at IIT Kanpur.
We could have seen that by ourselves on website. There should have been lectures only about
how we can use digital methods to teach and the hands on experience in that.
English language teaching
I would like to interest to deliver additional lecturer which are mainly focus on research topics
according to the more specific manner.
Specific lectures on research related topic according to the branch
Departmental visit for research
Control & Instrumentation
Yes, Computational intelligence and Network security
Research methodology
Food Technology, Training & Placement
Since most of the TEQIP faculty members are fresher in this field, so there should be lectures on
Research paper writing, proposal writing for getting grants from govt. as well as private agencies,
-
cover letter writing & letter of motivation writing for getting PhD or Post-doc position in good
institutes, what does a good institute like MIT, Harvard etc. want in a prospective PhD or Post-
doc. etc.
Machine Learning and Data Analytics, FDP on some advanced topics
Time table analysis
Specialisation based lecture
Lecture on practical application
Theoretical computer science
Teaching pure engineering subject to the students having biology only background at +2 level
Related to our research areas it should be considered
Deep Learning
Procedure for the procurement of equipment
a session on teaching ethics
Lab development and research area
Machine learning
Modelling and simulation
Research Fund Grants, Writing Research Proposals
Any additional comments regarding the sessions or overall agenda? Overall it was fine. But, there should be some changes as discussed in above questions. The main change
that I wish in the lectures should have been specifically only discussing digital methods of teaching
No
One-hour break may be provided during lunch session. Event timing may be 9am to 5pm is appropriate.
Sessions duration is enough but lunch time me be reduced to 1 hr.
It is too long
highly helpful for way of teaching
Average
ok
The session after lunch should be more related to hands-on practice, lab visit etc.
Since I am from English, and I found very few lectures during the event for us, so it would have been
really great if we had more lectures on English for Engineers, Scientists and Technocrats, and there should
be some focus on some inter-disciplinary areas as well where English/linguistics merges with these fields.
Good
More demos can be included
Lunch break should be 1 hour
Lunch break can be small.
Make session smaller in duration like 75 minutes
Good sessions
NA
lab manual of various ug courses should be open on internet so that we can take help when we stuck in our
college during experiment. it will be very helpful in guiding us to design the experiment for better learning
for student.
no
Practical application on machine learning
No
We learnt a lot and it will really be useful if our issues are addressed to NPIU
The visits could be department-wise rather than institute-wise.
It may be better, if could sit in the regular B.tech Class to attend 2-3 lectures. So it would be effective for
all of us to have live class environment of IIT

How can TEQIP help improve your teaching?
Providing us with course materials and resources
By more training
Through pedagogical trainings at IITs(Old),
We need help in making infrastructure in college because we are running our department in a
single lab without any faculty room.
TEQIP should make two workshops compulsory for every TEQIP faculty andTEQIP should help
and provide facilities that may be required by faculties. The faculty should also be directed to
attend on conference per semester. There are institutional constraints many times we face, I
expect TEQIP To Help US there. Attending workshops and conferences will boost our teaching
and research skills.
By providing the teacher training program
TEQIP affiliated workshops are very helpful for improving the teaching styles. Hence, I suggest
that there would be organized at least these kind two workshops in year.
TEQIP should organize 1 workshop in every semester. TEQIP should provide
equipments/materials to build innovative classrooms and labs.
By teaching learning exchange knowledge
I have no cabin in my college if possible then
By proper training
Assisting in developing lab.
Yes
by experiencing various aspects of teaching and other work
By providing such platforms where we can learn newer mode of teaching like this workshop on
Digital pedagogy & tools
By providing us with some grants to develop MOOC studio in our institutes, so that we can also
create our MOOC lectures.
By giving opportunity to attend some live lecturers
Unless we are not having some authority to take some decision in college, its little difficult to
improve upto a satisfactory level
Providing basic facilities not available in institute
Higher authorities need to come to teqip college
By conducting teaching and research related workshop
Lab support
Lab and subject material support
