Area and Volume-  Focus more on square units for area, figuring out the area of tangram shapes based upon individual piece area, physical manipulation of square cubes for volume and creating rectangular "prisms" our of paper to fill with those cubes, etc. (Also begin connecting the patterns between simple perimeter, area, and volume measurements.)

Area and Volume- Focus on developing their own formulas for perimeter, area, and volume. Perhaps using a formula for perimeter in their area formula and then volume as one possibility. These grades should be able to use more complex figures: rhombuses, pyramids, irregular triangular prisms, etc. The tetrahedral kite project would be fun, but the shape could be rectangles or some other three-dimensional shape to differentiate for the different levels.
