More builds planned this summerHe says the process is a labour of
love, as well as time.“I’m hoping to do this every
Saturday morning all over Oakville, since the response is so great,” hesaid. “I’d like people to join me, ifthey are interested. It is somethingvery simple and something thateveryone can do, but it is a lesson inpatience.”
“Sometimes I feel guilty when peo-ple watch me because it isn’t aninstant process,” he continued.“Everyone is watching and some-times it will take me 20 to 30 minuteswhile I place small stone on a largerstone. I feel like I should be giving
them more of a show, but that is nothow it works.”
As a result of his overnight fame, the Oakville man is developing a web-site that will feature photos of hiswork, as well as upcoming dates andlocations where people can join himin creating.
He is also researching a way tomake his creations more permanent, with the hopes of selling them. Hesaid many admirers have requestedtheir own stone sculptures to deco-rate their private spaces.
“I’ve had people asking aboutdoing this for their gardens, so I’mresearching ways to make them per-manent,” he said.
While some community sleuthsexpressed disappointment that hissculptures created two weeks ago didnot last longer, Ruminski said it isactually part of the art form.
“Some last a few minutes, whileothers last a month, depending onthe stones and the conditions,” hesaid.
“This is really a lesson in imper-manence — basically the fact thatnothing we do in the world will lastany extended time.
“To comes to terms with that, hereis this nice little thing, and it willmaybe last a minute, but you saw itand enjoyed it, and that is all you canhope for.”
