Moorestown High School Media Center Using the MHS Library Catalog Step 1 Begin by accessing the MHS Media Center website. Once there, you can access the MHS Library Catalog two ways: You can click on the FIND BOOKS AND VIDEOS selection to explore links to the catalog and other books and video sources. OR, To go to the catalog directly, simply click on the MHS LIBRARY CATALOG link. Step 2 When you access the catalog directly, the first thing you’ll see is the LIBRARY SEARCH page. The tabs allow you to select different search pages: Basic (which is displayed), Power (where you can enter multiple keywords and phrases), and Visual (where you can use picture icons to complete subject and other topical searches). You can type in your subject or keyword(s) in the box provided. You can also select the type of search you wish to do – Keyword, Title, Author, Subject, etc. You can also narrow your search by location (where you can select a specific school catalog to search), by format, or by reading program. Go to STEP 3 to see the sample search (China). Step 3 When you complete a search, a results page is displayed. Displayed at the top of the results page will be the number of titles found (for this search, 120 titles were found)...and a pull-down menu for you to use to sort the titles found (by relevance, call number, title, date, author and more). Step 1 Begin by accessing the MHS Media Center website.

Once there, you can access the MHS Library Catalog two ways: You can click on the FIND BOOKS AND VIDEOS

selection to explore links to the catalog and other books and video sources. OR,

To go to the catalog directly, simply click on the

MHS LIBRARY CATALOG link.

Step 2

When you access the catalog directly, the first thing you’ll see is the LIBRARY SEARCH page.

The TITLE DETAILS page displays specific information on the title you selected.

Again you will see the cover art (if available), the call number, and the author or publisher...as well as the number of copies the library owns and how many of those copies are available for checkout.

You can also read a brief description of the title here.

Even more information about the tile is listed here. You will find the subject headings relating to the title and other important notes about the title.

You can click on any of the subject headings to find all the titles in the library collection where that subject heading is listed. Following are other special features available in the library catalog.

TitlePeek 1

When you do a search, you often will see a picture of a title’s cover art on the RESULTS or TITLE DETAILS page. This feature is called TitlePeek.

Along with the title’s call number, a picture of the cover art will help you to find the title (whether it’s a book, a video, or something else) on the Media Center shelves.

TitlePeek does not only show you the title’s cover art. TitlePeek can also provide additional information about the title...information that might not be found on the RESULTS or TITLE DETAILS page.

You can click on the TitlePeek picture to access this additional information.

TitlePeek 2

When you click on a TitlePeek picture, a separate window will open to display the TitlePeek information.

For this title, a picture of the book cover and a review of the book from the School Library Journal is available.

You may also find the following information when using TitlePeek: Cover photo Brief summary Table of contents First chapter or excerpts Published reviews Author notes Title profile And more Remember: The TitlePeek cover art and/or other information is not available for all the titles in the library collection.

WebPath Express 1

When you do a search, you often will see a “magnifying glass” icon on the RESULTS or TITLE DETAILS page. This feature is called WebPath Express.

WebPath Express provides a listing of selected, valuable web sites that directly relate to a specific subject or subject heading.

When you see the WebPath Express icon (the “magnifying glass”), you know that a host of web sites relating to that subject or subject heading is available.

You can click on the WebPath Express icon to access this list of selected web sites.

When you click on a WebPath Express icon, a separate window will open to display the WebPath Express web sites listing.

For each web site listing, WebPath Express provides the title of the web site, a brief description, the topics the web site covers, and the web site’s URL. WebPath Express also displays grade level icons. These icons show you the grade levels for which the web site would be most appropriate. Remember: WebPath Express listings are not available for all subjects and subject headings in the library collection.

Other Features

The MHS Library Catalog also contains other valuable features.

Login

You can log into the MHS Library Catalog using your current network username and password. When you log into the catalog, you can do all the things listed on this sheet...plus you can access other catalog features like…. Resource Lists

You can create lists of selected titles relating to a particular topic of interest, a classroom activity, a research project, etc. You can update and edit these lists whenever needed. Please see the Media Center staff to find out more about these and other special features.
