After more than a decade working in the HVAC industry, Curtis Moore founded a small service business in his garage. In 2009, he established Moore Heating & Air Conditioning (Moore HVAC) as a one-man operation.

In his first year, Curtis took on odd jobs, eventually adding a single employee. When his partner, Jon Diamond, joined the business in 2011, there was a lot of room for growth. “The business was slow, but steady,” Jon laughs. “They were doing a lot of steelhead fishing when I came in. Curtis and I both had more than 10 years of experience in the business

and when we joined forces, we really turned the heat up on the operation.”

Less than four years later, the company has expanded significantly. Revenue has nearly doubled year after year since 2011 as Moore HVAC has gained traction in the local market. Today, the family-owned business employs more than 30 people. From a tiny garage shop with free desks from Craigslist, the company has expanded into a service-oriented residential HVAC company serving Sonoma, Marin and Napa counties in northern California.

The Perfect Fit, every time

Over the years, the Moore HVAC crew has focused in on what the business does best. “We do residential retrofit,” Jon clarifies. “We work for homeowners on their existing houses. We do not do any commercial work or new construction. A lot of contractors don’t like working with homeowners, but that is our specialty.”

The crew excels at providing comprehensive heating and air conditioning services that take into account the whole home. Moore HVAC takes a unique approach to installations, gauging factors, such as size, shape and home efficiency, to provide guidance to homeowners who are looking for a new system. The Perfect Fit approach guarantees long-term comfort and energy savings for Moore HVAC’s clients by providing a customized, holistic solution to home comfort.

While installations comprise a bulk of the company’s revenue, Moore HVAC offers a range of maintenance and repair services to help keep homeowners and their families warm or cool all year long.

The business offers competitive preventative maintenance plans to ensure systems are running effectively and efficiently, as well as to head off potential problems and costly repairs. Customers who choose a long-term preventative maintenance

plan can also count on repair discounts and priority service in case of an urgent need for repair.

Good company

Moore HVAC has built a reputation in the industry for quality work and professionalism. “We built this from the ground-up as a service company with character, honor and integrity,” Jon says. “That is why we have had the success we have. When we hire, the people we bring on have to live by that to work here. They tend to weed themselves out. If they can’t walk in every door and do that, they won’t make it here. We do everything right for the homeowner at all costs. Our mission is simple: the job is 100-percent right or it is 100-percent free. We won’t collect any money if we don’t hold up our end of the bargain. Our policy stresses doing the right thing, which is talked about in our industry all the time, but actions are louder than words.”

Living by that guarantee, the company is healthy. Jon and Curtis are happy to be able to pay the company’s employees and the bills and are not looking for any huge expansion in the coming years. Right now, the team is focusing marketing efforts within Sonoma County, building some growth there. Outside of the current service area, the crew is not interested.

“We started this company because we wanted to build a business where people could have good jobs and make good money for their families,” Jon explains. “We don’t need to go nationwide with a business that is too large for the two of us to handle. We are not huge, but we have character. Our fleet is made up of used trucks that get us where we need to go. We don’t have to cheat anybody to line our pockets.”

Most importantly, the company operates as a family; Jon and Curtis are proud to see employees taking care of each other. Moore HVAC team members never have to be asked to go the extra mile. Technicians frequently call each other at the end of the day to see if anyone needs help with a tough project. “Our employees are happy, because they are not numbers here,” Jon says. “They

are human beings and they are part of our family.”

The family attitude continues to extend through the company to customers as Moore Heating & Air Conditioning continues to provide leading home HVAC

services with character, honor and integrity. •
