One Moodle installation for over 100 higher education institutions in Croatia

University Computing Centre (SRCE)
• Founded in 1971 within the University of Zagreb, the only Croatian university at the time, with the purpose to enhance the implementation of information technologies in the academic community as well as in Croatia in general
• Today, SRCE is the main computing centre and the architect of the e-infrastructure, covering both the University of Zagreb and the whole research and high education system
• Competence center for information and communication technologies as well as the center for education and support in the area of ICT application
• Key activities:• National academic information systems
• Identity management infrastructure
• Advanced computing infrastructure
• Academic and national network infrastructures
• E-learning, training and user support
• International cooperation, programs and projects
• Croatian scientific and educational cloud (HR-ZOO)
E-learning Centre (ELC)
• Established at University Computing Centre University of Zagreb in 2007
• Basic objectives:
• Support teachers, students, e-learning teams and institutions
• Provide and maintain reliable and generally accessible university platform for e-learning
• Support the university network of people involved or interested in e-learning
• Promote and foster implementation of e-learning
• University Office for E-learning situated at the E-learning Centre
What does ELC do?

• Systems ELC provide to our users:
• Merlin – University e-learning system
• MoD – e-learning system for e-learning projects in community
• MuS – e-learning system for schools
• Moodle2Test – e-learning system for testing
• Moodle2Demo – demo system
• E-portfolio system
• Webinars
University E-learning Platform Merlin
• E-learning platform based on an open-source system Moodle and it is developed, maintained and administrated by the E-learning Centre
• System Merlin is organised in academic years: system for current academic year and four archived
• For academic year 2019/2020 we have prepared:
• New installation of Moodle 3.7: https://moodle.srce.hr/2019-2020/
• New theme based on Moodle Classic theme
• New report for institution administrators
• MerlinMobile application available in Google Play and App Store
• New versions of user manuals, online courses, animations...

• University of Zagreb – 31 institutions using Merlin (36 including universitystudies), 22 as institutional users
• For Universities of Zadar, Dubrovnik, Rijeka, Sjever and Catholic University of Croatia Merlin is the official e-learning system

Roles in Merlin
• Administrator ustanove – institution administrator can view/edit all courses on institution and can create new courses
• Nadglednik kolegija – institution supervisor can view all courses on institution but can’t create/edit courses
• Nositelj kolegija – course teacher can edit course and all participants
• Izvođač kolegija – course assistant teacher can edit course and students
• On-line asistent – online assistant can edit course and students but can’t grade students
• Demonstrator – student that can edit course
• Student – student can view course

Merlin - ISVU connection
• Enables:
• Opening of the courses according to the template prepared for the each institution
• Opening of the courses in multiple levels, depending on the needs of the single institution
• Students enrolment into courses and distribution in the groups by teacher
• Students enrolment from the multiple courses at ISVU in one course at Merlin
• Automatic students and teachers enrolment from ISVU into e-courses on Merlin
• Grade export from Merlin to ISVU
• 51 institution actively uses this connection
• 11.500+ e-courses opened from ISVU in ac. year 2019/2020
