We care about our Customer-Owners and we understand times are tough. If you are struggling with paying your bill, our customer service representatives are ready to help. We can assist you with payment plans, provide suggestions and resources for energy savings in your home, and refer you to various local agencies that may have funds available to help.

If you're having trouble paying your bill, don't wait. Give us a call today to discuss your options.

Cold, wet weather reminds us winter is here and signals an increased possibility of storms and outages. While Emerald's crews work year-round to provide reliable service, some outages are inevitable. Here are a few important tips to keep in mind this storm season:

Reporting an Outage Emergency/outage service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Call 541-746 -1583 to report an outage anytime, day or night. During large outages, phone recordings are updated frequently to provide callers with additional outage information. Please note that during a large outage, your call may be delayed due to high call volume.

Report an outage electronically using Emerald's SmartHub account management system. Once you've logged in, click on Report an Outage to send an instant outage notification to Emerald's 24-hour service line. Access SmartHub at www.epud.org.

Use your mobile device to report an outage when you download the free SmartHub app. The app provides all the same SmartHub tools found online. Simply log in and press Report an Outage to alert Emerald's 24-hour service line of your outage. The SmartHub app is available on GooglePlay and the App Store.

If the power does go out...1. Check your fuses and circuit breakers before reporting your outage.

2. Turn off and unplug sensitive electrical equipment (TVs, stereos, computers, etc.) to prevent damage when the power comes back on. Turn on your porch light so crews can monitor your power status.

NEVER go near downed power lines or any object touching a downed line. Doing so can put you at risk of a deadly electric shock.

Lightning Storms: Lightning can travel along the home's electrical system to appliances still plugged in. Using or even standing near plugged-in electrical appliances is dangerous during thunderstorms. Using electrical devices like corded telephones, personal computers, and televisions present a danger to you as well as to the appliance.

Play it safe and unplug electrical appliances before a thunderstorm to save the device (and you) from being damaged. It's also recommended to turn the home's air conditioning system or heat pump off during thunderstorms as this will help protect the compressor from being damaged.

Brownouts: A brownout is caused by depressed (or low) voltage and can cause lights to flicker or dim. They are hard on electronics and appliances with motors, like refrigerators, furnaces, and most electronic equipment. The best thing to do when experiencing a brownout is to unplug sensitive equipment or throw the main breaker in your home until full power is restored.

Emergency Help: Have a personal plan in place to cover your needs. Those who require special medical equipment at home, such as respirators, should set up plans with friends or relatives to get to a site with electricity, and/or identify emergency centers at local social service agencies and churches.

Emerald developed a long-term strategic plan for the utility as it heads into a changing environment. Call 541-746-1583 or stop by Emerald's office to get a printed copy, or download it at www.epud.org, About.
