    A Reaction Paper:

Honor and Excellence for the Betterment of Our Ailing Nation

I cannot do everything but I can do something. What I can do, I ought to do. And with the

grace of God, I will do it Prof. Monsod

Honor and excellence was inculcated to the minds in all UP students. No wonder why

this lecture was actually addressed to the students of UP. Prof Monsod however elaborates thatthe fruit of honor and excellence is competence and integrity .

As scholars of the people, UP students owe a debt of gratitude to the Filipino people,

whose taxes paid for part of that education. There is truth to what she said about how the student

are subsidized by the Philippine government so they owe it to the country to serve but it does not

mean for their whole lives because in reality minimum wage can barely feed a family, much less

send your children to a descent school. Do you blame these people if other countries appreciate

    their excellence?

This migration and brain drain phenomenon will continue until a lasting and permanent

solution is achieved. That is not to support big businesses that hang around on underpaid workers

for their own profits. What do we really need is political integrity (hopefully it will exist, who

knows? it is always good to think positive ) thats what is being part of a solution by simply

doing good to others, no to cheating and no to corruption. Our nation was the 41 st corrupt

countries in the world and this was really the root cause of all of the poverty in our country that

can almost always lead to unemployment, underemployed, brain drain wherein those well-

country. This I think is better than those persons entrenched in our government and those people

saying that they are serving the country, but in truth, they only have their own interests in mind.

I don't think anyone needs apologies for not doing enough for their country whether they

are abroad or living in the islands. At the end of the day all of us are accountable for our own

personal success. Nobody has any right to tell any law-abiding person how honorably or

dishonorably they had lived their life. We must take into considerations the economic conditions

and the persons circumstances that motivate them to work abroad. Whether you are a UP

graduate or not, you still have a choice and freedom to attain progress in such good ways. I rather

salute the OFWs who work outside the country and give the needs of their loved ones and family

rather than those government officials who worked in their own country dealing with so much

corruptions, cheatings and dishonesty in their servicewhy call them as such who served their

    country without political integrity?
