It is possible that one could come away from this article with the impression that I don't believe drugs are a destructive and deadly force in our culture, our economy, and in the lives of our children. I have a younger brother named Sam. Sam's a genius. I mean literally. As a kid he tested off the charts. The first computer I ever had he built from a kit he bought from tutoring other kids in math. Energetic and articulate, curious and funny, a great source of pride to our parents. And there's no doubt he'd be living a great life right now. Except that he's dead. Cuz when you're 14 years old all you want to be when you grow up is your 16 year old brother/ sister. And in my case, that meant smoking a lot of dope. The day I went off to college is the day he got his driving license. And he celebrated by taking a drive with some of his friends. Drunk and high as a kite. He never saw the red light that he ran or the 18 wheeler that put him in the side of a bank. That was 11 years ago tonight. And I just want to say I'm sorry. You deserved better in my hands. And I apologize. That's all. Casey and I will be back after this. You're watching Sportscenter.

(This sportscaster recently gave an interview where he supported the decriminalization of

marijuana. He was told by his network to apologize on air. NOTE: in a response to his use of

marijuana he told his employers that it had been 11 years. They questioned the specificity of his

answer). I purposely took out the spaces so that actors are forced to make their own beat

choices.

This network, the CSC, has asked me to clarify some remarks I made that hit your newsstand this

morning. It is possible that one could come away from this article with the impression that I don't

believe drugs are a destructive and deadly force in our culture, our economy, and in the lives of

our children. I have a younger brother named Sam. Sam's a genius. I mean literally. As a kid he

tested off the charts. The first computer I ever had he built from a kit he bought from tutoring

other kids in math. Energetic and articulate, curious and funny, a great source of pride to our

parents. And there's no doubt he'd be living a great life right now. Except that he's dead. Cuz

when you're 14 years old all you want to be when you grow up is your 16 year old brother/ sister.

And in my case, that meant smoking a lot of dope. The day I went off to college is the day he got

his driving license. And he celebrated by taking a drive with some of his friends. Drunk and high

as a kite. He never saw the red light that he ran or the 18 wheeler that put him in the side of a

bank. That was 11 years ago tonight. And I just want to say I'm sorry. You deserved better in my

hands. And I apologize. That's all. Casey and I will be back after this. You're watching

Sportscenter.
