A Phrasal verb or compound verb uses more than one word to form a construction with a different meaning altogether, that cannot be devised, if the words are taken separately. There are three main types of phrasal verbs.

In this example, the verb get followed by the adverb over has

a different meaning when written together, which is to

recover from or to let it be.

In this example, the combination of the verb ran and the adverb out means to not have anymore of something.

In this example, the verb stand with the adverb up and the preposition for combine to

mean to fight or defend in some way a person or ideal.

Otherwise it would mean to get up or stand on your feet.

In this example, the verb gets with the adverb away and the preposition from means that the peron avoids or escapes, in this case, a chore he/she had to do. It does not mean she always runs from plates.

accept, concede or tolerate, it does not mean to place

something on a high place.
