Monet’s Japanese Foot Bridge• Goal: Students will create a pastel landscape of Monet's garden.• Requirements: Students must use selected colors, follow step by step directions for shapes and applications • Objectives: Students will:• draw a landscape with fore, mid, and background.• blend colors for shadows, light, and color. • apply elements and principle of art.• create pastel drawings that effectively produce light and color in a landscape format.• create a Monet style landscape of a garden. • Resource Materials/Visual Aides:• Power point presentation• Visual displays and exemplars • Supplies/Materials:• 11x14 inch smooth white paper (hot pressed)• vine charcoal• conte crayons• pastel• kneaded erasers• rubber erasers• blending sticks• Fixative or Aquanet hairspray

• Directions:• • Part One• If weather permits, class will engage in outdoor drawing lesson. If not, choose pictures of landscapes from teacher or student files (no

architecture). • Lightly sketch horizon line and important subject matter with vine charcoal.• Use kneaded eraser to clean up unwanted lines or marks to maintain whiteness of paper. • Blend pastel into shapes for areas with subject matter. • Use erasers to maintain whiteness on sunlit areas (if applicable)• Add minimum details to mid-ground and more detail to foreground.• Repeat this method throughout the entire drawing for harmony and unity.• Apply opposite colors for emphasis and gently blend outward with blending sticks for value.• Class critique of work in progress using principles of art.• Part Two• Discuss the ways color is portrayed in light and shadows.• Observe the differences in textures of the objects in both the light and shadows.• Manipulate erasers to be utensils to replicate the textures.• Complete textures that require darkest marks• Emphasize highlighted areas with lightest colors.• Spray with fixative or hairspray.• Class critique on completed drawings.• • Critique/Evaluation/Assessment:• Teacher and Student Critique
