habitat? Think about food, water, shelter etc.

Maths:

Ice-cream

28p chopped fruit

Phonics:

Add the suffix of ‘ly’ to a word:

‘ly’? Most ‘ly’ words have the suffix at

the end of a word. For example:

love = lovely

Practice adding this suffix to these words;

week/slow/quick/hard

Does the meaning of each word change

when you add this suffix to the end?

Now write two of these words in a

sentence using an interesting conjunction.

The Ickabog: This week we would like you to read chapters 33—38 (uploaded on Monday) then chapters 39—44 (uploaded on

Thursday). Don’t forget the audio recordings uploaded on Monday will be deleted at 9am on Thursday, ready for the next upload.

Tuesday

Reading Comprehension:

Poetry

Today we would like you to read The Sound Keeper Poem and answer some reading comprehension questions.

The poem and questions are available as PDFs on our home learning page.

Before starting the reading comprehension questions, have a discussion with your grown up about the poem.

You could discuss the following:

What is the poem about? Do you like the poem? Why/why not?

Theme:

Today we would like you to explore human and physical

features of a coastline.

What is a human feature? A human feature is something

that is man made.

What is a physical feature? A physical feature is

something that is natural.

Take a look at this picture (available to download as a

PDF on our home learning page) and circle the human

features in one colour, and the

physical features in another colour.

Extension: Write a sentence to

explain the picture.

Phonics:

Add the suffix of ‘ment’ to a word:

Where in a word do we add the suffix

‘ment’? Most ‘ment’ words have the

suffix at the end of a word. For example:

amaze = amazement

Practice adding this suffix to these words;

pay/adjust/advertise/amuse

Does the meaning of each word change

when you add this suffix to the end?

Now write two of these words in a

sentence using an interesting conjunction.

Maths:

Ice-cream

Tommy has £1.25.

He buys an ice-cream for £1 which means he has

25p left to spend on toppings. Here is the list of

toppings available at the ice-cream parlour:

Chocolate flake 15p Chopped fruit 8p

Toffee sauce 12p Sprinkles 6p

What toppings could he buy with his remaining

money?

Wednesday Writing:

Senses at the seaside

For today and tomorrow’s writing, we would like you to explore and describe the five

senses at the seaside. Make sure you include expanded noun phrases (two adjectives to

describe a noun). There are two PDFs for you to choose from, one requires more writing

and the other requires more drawing. The choice is down to you!

Please focus on what can you see and hear at the seaside. Tomorrow you will be writing

what you can smell, taste and touch at the seaside.

Theme:

Science: Materials

For theme today we would like you to

investigate which material would be best

to use for a beach umbrella. Have a think about the

amount of shade each material gives.

For this investigation, you could use any materials you

have at home. For example, tin foil, cling film, a t-shirt, a

pair of jeans etc. We would recommend testing around 5

materials. If it isn’t sunny enough today, you could swap

this investigation with tomorrow’s theme activity.

Extension: What have you found out? Write a conclusion

for your investigation.

Phonics:

Add the suffix of ‘ness’ to a word:

Where in a word do we add the suffix

‘ness’?

kind = kindness

There’s one rule. When the root word

ends up a y, and you add ‘ness’ on the

end, you must change the y for an i.

Practice adding this suffix to these words;

cool/dark/fit/lazy/dry/lonely

Maths:

Some children have been saving their money for a

boat trip. The trip costs £1. How much more

does each child need to save? You could use real

coins for this activity or draw your own.

Ben: 75p

Timothy: 62p

Sam: 39p

Jenny: 53p

Challenge: If you feel confident with £1, why

don’t you change this question to £1.50 or £2?

Thursday Writing:

Senses at the seaside

Read through your writing from yesterday. Can you improve your work? Use a different coloured pencil or pen to edit any missing capital letters or full

stops, or if you think you could improve the adjectives you have used.

Today we would like you to finish this piece of work by thinking about what can you smell and taste at the seaside.

Don’t forget to include expanded noun phrases.

Extension: What can you touch at the seaside?

Theme:

I spy at the seaside

What can you see at the seaside?

Please download

the I Spy activity

sheet from our

home learning

page (or create

your own using

this worksheet as

an example).

Brainstorm your idea and draw a picture for each.

Extension: Are there any that have a connection?

Phonics:

Add the suffix of ‘less’ to a word:

Where in a word do we add the suffix

‘less’?

colour = colourless

Practice adding this suffix to these words;

speech/pain/harm/care/help/hope

Does the meaning of each word change

when you add this suffix to the end?

Now write two of these words in a

sentence using an interesting conjunction.

Maths:

Fish and chips

Jan and David went to the fish and chip shop

with a £10 note. They bought:

1 piece of battered cod for £4.20

1 fish cake for 80p

1 battered sausage for 70p

2 portions of chips for £3.10

How much did they spend in total?

How much change will they get?

Extension: Create your own word problem for a

member of your family to solve.

Friday

Writing:

Write a postcard

What is a postcard?

Have you written a postcard before? Who did you write it to? What did you say?

Have you received a postcard before? Who was it from? What did it say?

For writing today, we would like you to write a postcard to a member of your family or a friend. You could

tell them what you have been up to during your time at home or if you went on a day trip.

Phonics:

Prefixes

Over the last few phonics activities, we

have explored suffixes which are added to

the end of a word. Today and next week

we will be exploring prefixes.

A prefix is added to the beginning of a

word. For example: un = unhelpful

Practice adding this prefix to these words

well/able/happy/tidy/lucky/tie

What does this prefix to do the meaning

of these words? Write a definition.

Maths:

Doughnuts

Steve and Alice love to visit the seaside to buy

hot sugary doughnuts.

2 doughnuts costs 50p

How much would 1 doughnut cost?

How much would 3 doughnuts cost?

How much would 5 doughnuts cost?

Write the number sentence for each question.

Extension: Change the amount

for 2 doughnuts.

Theme:

Art

Please create a seaside piece of artwork.

Use any resources you have at home.

We would love to display your artwork on our home

learning page on the website. If you would like others to

see your artwork, then please ask your grown up to send

a photograph of your

work via Miss John or

Miss Webster’s email

address (at the top of this

page).

Don’t forget to send us your home learning! ([email protected] or [email protected]).
