Dame Cressida DickCommissioner of the Metropolitan Police
• When I joined the police in 1988 there were very few women and an even smaller number of openly gay officers of either gender.
• The role of policing was heavily dominated by men and traditionally very few women climbed the ranks to senior positions.
• I was therefore enormously proud to have experienced working for the first female Met Police commissioner, who was appointed in 2017.
• Unlike her immediate predecessors Cressida was a popular appointment by rank and file officers across the Met.
• As commissioner Cressida is the most senior police officer in the UK.
• Mrs Mitchell – Safeguarding Officer
Etymology of …SoliloquyWords we use for English studies…
• Soliloquy – usually refers to a dramatic device in theatre where a character speaks out loud to themselves, allowing their thoughts and feelings to be shared with the audience
• Break it down -Solus – is Latin for alone, solo (from where we get ‘solo’, to go alone or perform a musical piece on your own) Loquor – also Latin, means talk, speak, tell, say (from where we get Latin: eloquens, in turn Old French eloquent (giving a clear, strong message)The fusion brings us the Latin, Soliloquium > Soliloquy
• Other words from these stems: eloquent, loquacious
