The 7th grade Spanish students have been learning how to describe who they are. Through games and songs we created a project called I am a star (Yo soy una estrella). They wrote a story about themselves. Ask them to read it to you. Students in the first grade are singing songs to learn the body parts. They eventually will be able to say what part of the body hurts them in Spanish. Ask them to share their songs and poems about the body.

The 8th grade Spanish class has finished up their exploration of The Andes this trimester. The class was broken up into small groups to look at three aspects of The Andean Culture; the healing rituals, daily life, and The Inti Raymi Celebration. Each group created a still life monument with their groups to depict what they read and the answers they re-searched. We looked at Tigua Art and made a few sketches of what is important in the Andean culture. The final project took place in the Art class with their art teacher, Mrs. Bergin, where each student created their own land-scape art piece on canvas using the techniques in Tigua art and the work of Granda Moses. Take a look at their pictures in progress. We have quite a talented group of artists in 8th grade. The 6th grade has been studying body parts as we had made dancing skeletons for Halloween. Each student created a crazy body skeleton or person and wrote a description of it in Spanish. Several students read the story out loud to the class. This was a fun activity to increase fluency in speaking and writing.

What do pilota, mecanica, artista, y bailarin all have in common? They are all professions in the target lan-guage of Spanish. Students were choosing to create professions for their skeletons for El Dia de Los Muer-tos (The Day of The Dead) in 7th grade. This is a creative collaborative project between Mrs. Begin, the art teacher, and Senora Goodman, the Spanish teacher. Students wrote a paragraph about themselves in Spanish class and used this as a template for their skeleton in art class.

The second grade Spanish class has been studying bats through October and November. I have come to learn that many of these students already know alot about these incredible creatures. We made paper bats, acted out a bat poem in Spanish, and wrote it on our bat wings. We have had Mystery Doug teaching us all about Los Murcielagos. You will see their bat flying around your home soon.

On Saturday 11/4 the Main Crust ran a fund raiser to benefit the 8th grade class. The Main Crust

generously donated 50% of the sales from 11Am – 7PM to the 8th grade. This donation equaled over

$750.00 and will be used to help with the cost of the 8th grade class trip! The 8th grade students

greeted patrons, passed out menus, and folded pizza boxes. THANK YOU TO TRENT AND THE

STAFF OF THE MAIN CRUST FOR BEING SO VERY SUPPORTIVE OF THE

MARLBOROUGH SCHOOL!!!

They collected weather data with their instruments and presented

their projects to the class.

Grade 2 is studying Heat, Light, and Sound. The first picture

is an experiment to figure out the quickest way to melt/heat

up an ice cube. The next three are the students creating their

own instruments that vibrate to make sound. The last picture

is light activity where we made translucent “stained glass

windows”.
