Preface
In our new normal world of learning, real learning only occurs when you process new information
in a way that makes sense to your own frame of references, experiences, and responses. Real learning
is a meaningful learning.
In compliance with the K to 12 Junior High School Art Education Curriculum following the Most
Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) of the Department of Education, this modular course
outline provides you with the complete and up-to-date lessons for the grade 7 art education class.
In this set of modules, you will be learning about Arts in the Philippines. You will discover
different art forms of the different regions in the Philippines namely sculpture, architecture,
traditional attire, ornaments, arts and crafts, festivals and theater. You will also be introduced to
famous arts and will be able to analyze them in terms of their characteristics, visual elements and
principles, processes and concepts, and how the culture, religion, geography and biodiversity affect
the development of their arts. It will also provide you the opportunity to try different art activities to
help you understand the lessons better, showcase your talent, and see art as a possible career
opportunity.
As you go through the lessons in this modular course outline every quarter, you will notice that
each module consists of (a) learning objectives, that state what competencies you will be gaining for
the whole quarter; (b) learning through, that discusses the lessons; (c) learning engagement, that will
test your learned knowledge on the lesson; (d) reinforcement, that will strengthen what you have
learned by answering textbook activities; (e) learning output, that will let you apply your
understanding on the lesson; and (f) learning outcome, that will serve as the final art output which
will define what you will become after each module.
There will be a lot of habituating. But with the support of your parents, your cooperation and
willingness to learn nothing is impossible. Let us embrace this new normal with a positive mindset.
Just like how, at first, some of you thought that art is impossible. In fact, you made possible as seen
in the artworks you created in your previous art classes. Therefore, online learning is also possible. No
prior expertise is required, just passion.
Let us take these challenges together!

The Role of Parents The School-Home or Parent-Teacher partnership is very vital in the students’
academic achievement and success in education. Parents play an important role in
their children’s attitudes about learning and support learning at home. This
partnership is an important factor to help students reach their maximum potential. As
we shift to a new paradigm of the online teaching-learning process, we believe that
educating students cannot be achieved by teachers’ efforts alone. Parents’
involvement in the education of their children is essential. Thus, parents are
encouraged to play the following roles to supplement that of the teachers.
• Setting up parental controls for a safe and worry-free screen time of their
children
• Providing physical and technical support in setting up the children’s learning
station at home, checking internet connection and any laptop malfunction
• Providing a conducive place for their children to work during live lessons, with
good lighting, quiet and comfortable venue for learning
• Providing necessary school materials/equipment needed as required by the
subject teachers for their children’s project/ output/ performances/ activities
• Making sure that their children are dressed appropriately (school uniform) while
participating in live lessons
• Establishing routines/schedules and house rules in online learning
• Monitoring the conduct of proper behavior of their children during live
lessons(synchronous)
• Ensuring that the child is on task within the given schedule
• Monitoring the children’s work constantly by browsing the module or logging
on to the PSD e-desk /learning portal
• Monitoring their children’s progress in school regularly, by constantly
checking their work through browsing the module and logging on to the PSD
e-desk portal and making sure that the homework/ assigned activities are done
• Motivating their children to do their best in everything that they do by giving
commendations on their achievements and encouraging them to work
independently
• Maintaining harmonious parent-teacher relationship and attending scheduled
parent-teacher conferences and other important school meetings
• Reading communication sent by the school, accomplishing the required
response for each letter and confirming the receipt of the letter through PSD E-
desk
• Answering the school’s online survey and correspondence as honestly and
promptly as possible
PHILIPPINE ARTS: Traditional Arts and Culture of Different Regions/ Art Education 7

• Communicating clarifications or issues with the teacher within the official work
hours
• Keeping in touch with the teachers to keep themselves up-to-date with their
children’s progress
• Raising issues and concerns through the proper forum
• Complying with the school policies on discipline and integrity
• Following protocols set by the various school offices in transacting academic
concerns, payments, and other school-related matters
• Maintaining a happy disposition to create a safe space for their children where
they can lay out all their issues or concerns that are bothering them to treat
their parents as their friends
• Coaching/ helping students to build good habits and develop skills in good
time management
• Looking for ways to inspire their children to avoid stress and discomfort of
performing the task

ARTS and CRAFTS of MIMAROPA and Visayas
MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) and Visayas, just like Luzon, are composed of many ethnic groups. Each ethnic group exhibits uniqueness in creating their various arts and crafts – traditional costumes, architecture, sculptures, functional art and more – that are influenced by their culture, expertise and natural resources.
WEAVING CRAFTS
One common craft produced in many parts of MIMAROPA and Visayas are weaving crafts. Baskets, bags, trays and mats are some of the most common examples.
In Mindoro, pakudos design is very common in designing their fabrics and weaving crafts. These are patterns composed of simple geometric lines.
In Palawan, tingkop, a woven harvest basket is a famous product. It is made of strips of bamboo with rattan, and is mainly used to carry rice seedlings. Marinduque also makes lots of baskets and mats but uses raffia and buri leaves.
Panay is also known for making weaving crafts, especially banig or sleeping mats. They call their craft pagrarara it banig or “weaving of mats” and use bariw leaves.
Though banig is found all over the country, banig-making is really considered a major art in Basey, Samar. Basey mats are made of tikog grass. They are unique because aside from weaving (baniglara) they also incorporate embroidery (burda) in making the designs.

The Weaving Process
In weaving, threads that go up and down in vertical orientations are called warp. Threads that go across are the weft. It is woven over and under the warp.
Direction: Answer the following activities in your MAPEH book.
1. IAchieve Activity 2 on pages 128-129 (10 items) – Refer your answers on pages 126-128. Access code (Wait for your teacher to give the access code)
2. IAchieve Activity 5 on page 137 (10 items) – Refer your answers on pages 132-136.
Access code (Wait for your teacher to give the access code)
I can identify different arts and crafts of MIMAROPA and Visayas and their distinct characteristics.
I can analyze the development of crafts in the regions we discussed according to cultural influences, functionality, traditional specialized expertise, and availability of resources.
I am now ready to create, with the best of my ability, and critique my own artwork to reflect on
my learnings.

Quiz Time
Direction: Wait for your teacher to give you the link for the quiz.
Paper Weaving Activity
Direction: Accomplish the following steps by group. Make sure that each of the members will be assigned
to a task and will do it accordingly. A member who is not participating can be reported to the teacher and
he/she will make his/her own learning output separately.
1. Brainstorm with your groupmates for a theme/motif and design. You may google for weaving
patterns that you think you can do. Decide on the color/s or pattern (geometric, floral, rounds,
colorful, happy colors, earth tones, etc) motif that your group will focus on. Each of the members
will make one paper weaving output.
2. Make your paper weaving. Each member will work on his/her own paper weaving craft, in
accordance to the group’s decided motif. The size could be half or whole A4 size. Any kinds of
paper can be used: colored papers, magazines, specialty papers, etc. Just make sure that your
patterns will be seen.
3. Prepare for presentation. Your group will present your output in the class, explaining your
group’s theme/motif. You should plan how to present it and assign people to do it. You may use
PowerPoint, Canva or any other presentation tool that you are familiar with. Show the works of
one by one and introduce who made each. All groups will present in one meeting (to be
scheduled by the teacher) so make the presentation very short but creative 3-4 minutes will do.
