The MιA® product family from Condensator Dominit GmbH is the lat-

est generation of active power filters with maximum performance at

minimal losses.

Power-regulated loads such as motors driven by frequency converters or ener-

gy-saving lamps are an essential component of our energy turnaround. At the

same time, these loads with a non-linear U-I characteristic curve provide for crit-

ical system perturbations due to harmonic currents.

Active filters are used to reduce harmonic currents, provide reactive power, min-

imize flicker and balance load currents. These measures are necessary wherever

networks do not conform to standards due to system perturbations.

EN 50160 describes the specified phenomena and defines the

permissible compatibility levels for public networks in low/medi-

um and high-voltage networks. The compatibility levels specified there

form the basis for the error-free and long-term operation of loads in

public networks. EN 61000-2-4 describes in parallel the compatibility levels

in industrial networks. In EMC class 2, this standard con-

forms to EN 50160. Thus, loads for public networks may

also be operated in Class 2 industrial networks.

If normative compatibility levels are exceeded, this can lead to downtimes in

production-relevant machines, systems and controls. If the compatibility level

is exceeded, suppliers are free from any guarantee, warranty or recourse claims.

MιA® implements the necessary standard conformity of your network and thus

prevents faults, failures or loss of warranty and guarantee claims.

Secure your network with MιA®!

MιA® NETWORK INTEGRATION

The network connection of MιA® takes

place parallel to the loads. Production pro-

cesses are not influenced by this during in-

stallation and maintenance work.

Through selection of the installation point

of the current transformers, there are many

possibilities to influence the active filter's

mode of operation. For example, indi-

vidual loads or entire network areas can

be filtered. Moreover, MιA® can be op-

erated in a closed-loop and open-loop

configuration.

In the closed loop configuration, the mea-

suring signal of the current transformer

is detected by the filter and load on the

grid side. If it is not possible for design

reasons to install the current transform-

ers on the grid side of the load and ac-

tive filter connection point, for example,

or if an extremely rapid sup-

ply of reactive current (har-

monics) is required, the open-loop

configuration offers an effective

and cost-efficient alternative.

CONSEQUENCESVoiding of warranty claims

Failure of control systems

Reduced service life of devices and systems

Increased noise emission from transformers and loads

Temperature increase at transmission devices such as transformers

Flickers

Increased CO2 emissions

MιA® detects the load current via the on-

site current transformers and calculates

the proportion of harmonic currents, reac-

tive power and load asymmetry (system

perturbation). A filter flow is fed into the

grid at the connection point via the intel-

ligent control structure. The filter current

now compensates for system perturba-

tions of the loads on the network side,

the voltage quality is improved, and rel-

evant standards (DIN EN 61000-2-4) can

be fulfilled.

THE MιA® PRODUCT FAMILY

The application-driven product selection

is intended to be facilitated by the various

designs. Two designs are available: the 400

V MιA®-WM wall-mount system with small

dimensions and the 400 V MιA®-S cabinet

design for higher capacities.

MιA® WM wall mounted systems can be

supplied with 20 A, 40 A, 100 A, 150 A, as

well as with and without a neutral con-

ductor connection. In the MιA®-S cabinet

design, up to 600 A rated current can be

realized. Here, as well, the user decides

whether filtering of the neutral conductor

is required.

All MιA® products feature the latest 3-lev-

el IGBT inverter technology, exhibiting

the highest ratings in power dissipation

and dielectric strength. The well-devised

modular and robust design of the MιA®

family is trend-setting and offers the user

a maximum of flexibility in expandability,

maintenance and repair. Should a power

module fail, the remaining modules can

continue working. Thanks to short deliv-

ery times in combination with the mod-

ular design, the defective module can be

easily replaced within a very short time.

Resonances are a comprehensive topic in

our constantly growing energy supply net-

works. Unchoked cable capacities or, for

example, EMC output filters, very frequent-

ly form unwanted but unavoidable network

resonances with inductive components

such as transformers or line inductances. In

order to effectively manage this sensitive

vulnerability of active filters, all MιA® are

equipped with Selective Resonance Moni-

toring (SRM). MιA® constantly detects and

monitors any resonance points in the net-

work and also reliably prevents resonance

excitation. That is why the operation of

active filters without selective resonance

monitoring is grossly negligent in light of

the dramatically changing load and net-

work structure.

 MASTERY OF SOPHISTICATED NETWORK SITUATIONS

Our key motivation for developing MιA®

was the continuous further development

of products towards increasing custom-

er satisfaction and to protect econom-

ic and ecological resources. MιA® sys-

tems superbly master this wide range of

tasks. For each product, the customer

decides which components are required.

For example, MιA®-WM and MιA®-S

can be selectively ordered with or with-

out an N conductor connection. The

systems continue to be available with

or without HMI. This display is espe-

cially suited for applications with many

filters at hard-to-reach installation loca-

tions. The parameterization can also be

performed without HMI via a Wi-Fi inter-

face, however.

The modular structure of the MιA® fam-

ily also makes it possible to adapt the

systems to a growing environment. For

example, MIA-S can be flexibly expanded

by adding power modules. This allows for

long-term, uncomplicated customer plan-

ning, without having to already specify

the final design during planning phase.

 ECONOMICAL USE OF RESOURCES

The 7-inch color touch panel in the wall

housing or control cabinet ensures us-

er-friendly and organized operation of the

system. Naturally, comprehensive test

functions and a commissioning assis-

tant are available for commissioning.

The display interface is equipped with

many languages, thus facilitating its use

in worldwide applications. The intuitive

operation via the display, the straightfor-

ward structure of the software and the

well-organized layout make it easier for

the user to obtain the desired information

quickly and easily.

The availability of electrical energy is a deci-

sive factor for safe and reliable production.

Any quality sacrifices in voltage quality en-

dangers the energy supply, the operational

safety of plant components, control tech-

nology and IT systems. The key causes of

poor voltage quality are frequency convert-

ers, power converters, UPS systems, PCs,

welding machines and many more. They

generate undesired system perturbations,

which are characterized by a high harmonic

content.

The problems caused are myriad:

u Relevant standards of the

voltage quality are violated

u Guarantee and warranty

claims towards the manufacturer

are voided

u In cables, distributions, trans-

formers cause harmonics

additional thermal losses.

u The service life of motors is

reduced through counter or pendulum

torques.

u Malfunctions and failures of

loads
