ASSEMBLY—ROWSE 3-YARDWHEEL ASSEMBLYMost scrapers are assembled for shipment except for the wheels, which must be mounted to the hubs with wheel nuts or lugs.

CYLINDER ASSEMBLY

If cylinders are removed for shipment, place cylinder with shaft end toward rear of scraper. Cylinder is secured by the use of a 1 x 8" bolt, placed through the shaft end and through the bracket on the bucket. Tighten 1" nut and lock set screw that is located in nut. Other end of cylinder is mounted to scraper frame by the use of a 1" pin and cotter key, as shown.

HOSE ASSEMBLY

The 12” hose assembles to closest cylinder port with the aid of a swivel union (use pipe joint mixture on all fittings). The 18" hose is installed to the port of cylinder furthest from the hydraulic oil line (Item 3).

MAINTENANCE

Only 6 grease fittings are on each unit and should be greased every 2-3 working hours. Check wheel bearings at least once a year. Keep hydraulic system clean by the use of a filter. Failure to do so will result in damage to tractor pump and cylinders.

Page 7: Models 300, 500 & 700 HYDRAULIC · PDF file(308) 348-2276 • Toll Free: 800-445-9202 HYDRAULIC RAKES COMPANY, INC. . MODEL 300 ... cylinder is mounted to scraper frame by the use

ADJUSTING & OPERATING—3-YARDGENERAL

1. Before use of scraper, check to see that your machine is lubricated as instructed.

2. Be sure all nuts are tight. They should be tightened after a few hours of use.

3. Check and tighten allen set screws in nuts and pins when needed.

DEPTH OF CUT

1. Depth of cut is regulated with the control valve. By activating the control valve lever in one direction, it will lower the scraper blade for loading. Activation of the lever in the opposite direction will raise the blade.

2. Lower blade until scraper starts to enter the soil, quickly activate the release lever to raising position. This will keep blade from going too deep, thus stalling the tractor. After a short time of use, operator will have no trouble in loading scraper to capacity on the go.

TRANSPORTING1. Check clearances carefully when moving or operating scraper around bridges, buildings,

fences, etc.

2. Use warning devices (i.e. flags, S.M.V., emblems, lights, etc.) which are approved for use by your local government agencies, when moving equipment on public roads. Keep these devices clean and in position for good observation.

3. Drive at a reasonable speed to maintain complete control of the machine at all time.

DETACHING SCRAPERScraper must be parked on level ground. Lower jack and remove pull pin. This will hold tongue and dimensions and keep scraper from rolling. Disconnect quick couplers, and tractor is now free to be used for other jobs.

INTRODUCTION—5 & 7 YARDRowse 5 & 7 yard scrapers are designed for use with 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive tractors of 70 horsepower and up for 5 yd, and 85 horsepower and up for 7 yd. Tractors must have one (1) double-acting control valve to operate scraper.

1. Make sure tractor is equipped with a filtered hydraulic system.2. Use clean oil and keep it clean.3. Failure to observe the previous rules will result in damage to the scraper hydraulic

cylinders and or the tractor hydraulic system.

SAFETYBEFORE OPERATING1. Review this manual.2. After servicing, be sure all tools, parts, or servicing equipment are removed from

the machine.3. Make sure there is no one near the machine before starting operation.

DURING OPERATION1. Use extreme care when operating close to ditches, fences, or on hillsides.2. Keep hands, feet, and clothing away from moving parts.3. Never allow anyone to ride on equipment.

BRACKET STOPS—5 & 7 YARDNOTE: Bracket stops are bolted on either side of the bucket to hold it in raised position for transport. These are installed when the scraper is shipped from the factory. These brackets must be removed before operating the scraper. To remove, attach the hydraulic hoses to your tractor system and raise the bucket slightly with the hydraulic control lever. The brackets can then be removed. (See item 25, page 22 for location.)

TRANSPORTINGThe Rowse Model 500 & 700 Scrapers can be towed from job to job on road or highway with a truck or pickup equipped with a sturdy bumper and hitch.

CAUTION: Be sure brakes of the towing vehicle are in good operating condition. The scraper weighs approximately 4,000 lbs. for 5 yd and 5,000 lbs. for 7 yd, and is not equipped with brakes. Thus, considerably more stopping distance will be needed.

When transporting behind a pickup or truck, the transport stop bolts (Item 25, page 22), must be installed on each side of the bucket to hold bucket in carry position when the hydraulic lines are unhooked.

1. Check clearances carefully when moving or operating scraper around bridges, buildings, fences, etc.

Scraper hitch can be raised by lowering bucket of scraper. Remove pull pin, move tractor ahead slightly. Lower tongue to ground or block tongue of scraper up safely with an object of sufficient strength to hold tongue and dimensions, to keep scraper from rolling. Disconnect quick couplers, and tractor is now free to be used for other jobs.

4. Be sure the transport stop bolts are removed (Item 25, page 7).

UNLOADING & SPREADING

1. Depth of spread is regulated with the control valve. As the scraper is operated through the dump cycle, spread depth is increased until the scraper is in full dump position.

2. Adjustment plates on the rear wheels are standard equipment. These are used to set minimum or maximum spread depth, and for leveling cutting edge of the blade if it cuts deeper on one side.

MAINTENANCE & LUBRICATION—5 & 7 YARDThe scrapers have 15 grease fittings, 7 on each side. The fittings should be greased every 2-3 hours. Below are the various grease fitting locations:

Number Location 2 Front gate (1 on each side) 4 Frame pivot points (2 on each side) 6 Bucket pivot points (3 on each side) 2 Shaft end of cylinder (1 on each side) 1 Ball hitch assembly, goose neck

Wheel bearings should be checked and repacked each year. Scraper blades should also be checked and scraper greased prior to off-season storage. Blades are reversible and removable for sharpening or replacement.

If scraper is not to be used for a period of time, and will be stored outside, leave bucket in full dump position so water, ice, snow, trash, etc., does not stand in bucket. Apply light grease film on exposed cylinder shaft to reduce chance of rust and pitting.

Suggested maximum tire pressure: 42 psi for 11L x 15, 8-ply tires (5 yard scraper) 60 psi for 12.5L x 16, 14-ply tires (7 yard scraper)
