•Member of Herpesviridae family•Causes chicken pox and shingles•Symptoms include fever, blister-like rash, itching, and distribution over dermatome•Double-stranded DNA virus and enveloped polyhedral•Transmitted through airway secretions and from fluid in blisters•Treatment:
•General hygiene measures- clean , dry skin, hand washing•Anti-pyretic for fever reduction ( ex: motrin)•Anti-pruritic for itching ( Ex : Calamine lotion)•Anti-viral ( Ex: Acyclovir)
