    Practice Days:

    Our season runs from mid-October through December. Expect to have practice every Monday-Thursday from 3:15-4:45pm. On practice days, your child must be picked up at 4:45pm or they may take the activity bu

    home. There will be 2-3 Sunday practices where the girls will work with professional

    choreographers to learn competitive routines. Attendance is mandatory. Expect to attend all practices until the scheduled times.

    Game Days:

    Performances will take place during both halftimes of home games. Girls are expected to stay until after the half time of the second game on game days (This

    is typically between 6:00-6:30pm).

    Girls are expected to sit together. Please keep in mind that there is NO LATE BUS on game days and transportation must be

    arranged. Girls must maintain a C average in order to perform.

    What to Wear:

    Practice Days:

    o Girls are expected to wear comfortable and school appropriate clothing. Dontforget to bring your dance shoes!

    o

    Absolutely no jewelry or gum.

    Game Days:

    o Girls are expected to wear their black jazz pants, black socks, and team hoodie toschool.

    o Don't forget to bring your shell, dance shoes, and either a black leotard or tank topto change into!

    o Absolutely no jewelry or gum.o ALL hair must be up and out of your face. If you have hair that hangs, pin it back.

    Treats & Drinks: On game days, please remember to bring your treats/drinks! Please make sure your

    treats/drinks arrive prior to 4:00pm. Treats must be PEANUT FREE! Drinks can be something like juice, water, or Gatorade. Snacks should be somewhat healthy such as pretzels, cheese-its, granola bars, fruit

    snacks, etc. Please bring enough for 21 girls and maybe 1 hungry coach :)

    Associated Expenses:

    Athletic fee: $110.00 Choreography fee: $30.00 Team spirit wear: $30.00 Black jazz shoes must be purchased prior to the first game.

    o Approximately $25.00 and can be found at Payless and Target

    Responsibilities:

    1. Practices, games, and competitions are MANDATORY!!! If you must leave a practice early, bring a note to your coach at least TWO days in

    advance. There are absolutely NO exceptions on the last practice before a game or competition!

    However, absences during this week (even excused) may result in a dancer being pulledfrom a performance.

    If you are injured or ineligible, you are still required to attend the practices andperformances.

    If you are NOT at school due to an injury or illness, you will NOT be able to practice orperform. The ONLY exception is for school-related events. You must be at school for halfof the school day (4 periods) to be eligible.

    To be eligible for a performance, you must:o be healthyo be academically eligibleo attend practices according to the above guidelineso demonstrate the ability to perform the routine to the coaches standards!!

    2. You must be dressed appropriately for practices and game days. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! Appropriate dress for practices includes attire that allows you to move but is also an

    outfit that our administration would find acceptable. We are dancers, but we also want todisplay ourselves in a way that would earn the RESPECT of our peers, teachers, andcommunity.

    Appropriate dance shoes, black tank top and socks are mandatory accompaniments to youruniform.

    3. You are expected to attend all practices and games until the scheduled times. If there is a specific reason you need to leave a game or competition early, your coach

    needs written confirmation from your parents. You are expected and required to sit with your squad and support each other!

    4. If you are having a personal issue with another member(s) on the team, and you cannot resolveit amongst yourselves, YOU need to come to your coach. Your coach should not hear about yourproblem from another person on the team, or your parent.

    Expectations:

    The Matthews Middle School Pom & Dance Team is committed to excellence in the sense ofrepresenting themselves, their school, their coaches, and their families. We strive to becomebetter dancers, better team members, strong leaders, and individuals with character and goodmoral standing. Since being a Pommie is an honored and highly representative position of ourschool, your conduct must adhere to specific standards and expectations.

    Responsibility:You, and you alone, will be held accountable for your actions! Do what is right and avoid what iswrong. Do not put yourself in a compromising position. Everything you do can and will affect theteam, set a good example for your peers! Strive for perfection and work your hardest at ALLtimes!!

    Respect:

    Respect and treat others as you would have them treat you; this means fellow dance teammembers, coaches, teachers, other teams, peers, and competitors.

    Academic Excellence:

    Remember, you are first a Matthews Middle School student and then a member of the danceteam. You must keep your grades at Cs or better. Prioritize and arrange your schedule tomaintain excellence in your schoolwork and activities.

    Representation:

    You are not only representing your squad, but the school as a whole. Your appearance in and outof school should always be acceptable.

    Attitude:

    Try very hard to remember your attitude affects the whole team. Keep a smile on your face andbe polite. Thank someone who has taken the time to comment on your performance. Acceptcriticism as constructive and necessary to make you a better dancer.

    Focus:

    While boyfriends and friends may be our greatest fans, they should NEVER interfere withpractice or performances. Also, LEAVE PERSONAL PROBLEMS AT THE DOOR!!! Do not bring inbaggage to practice! What happens outside the doors of the practice room stays out there!!This includes gossip and rumors, do not be a part of the problem.
