European Championship of Ping Pong in Budapest on 25-26th November 2017

Last decade a new style of table tennis is getting more and more popular. Matchroom with the leadership of Barry Hearn has taken the game to a different dimension giving everyone the same sandpaper ping pong bats and increasing the show elements of the game.

Slight changes to the rules (eg. introducing double point ball and games played up to 15 points with no need to have two clear points to win the set or match) has given an extra twist for the game. The introduction of new show elements made the game more TV friendly. It is broadcasted live by Sky Sports every year.

The very first World Championship of Ping Pong (WCPP) was held in Las Vegas and then London has taken over for the past 5 years in the iconic Alexandra Palace where some other major events are being held such as the darts championships and major snooker events.

The great success of the Hungarian qualification event has given a chance to host the very first European Championship of Ping Pong in Budapest. The Hungarian qualification event was the biggest qualification event for WCPP 2017 with over 130 players taking part and trying to qualify for the World Champs.

The Organising Committee has taken on the challenge this year to run the very first European Championship of Ping Pong (ECPP), which will be held in Budapest, Hungary on 25-26th November and will run over two days.

Qualification rounds will take place on Saturday, 25th November in the Hungarian National Table Tennis Centre. Finals will be played on 16.30 Sunday, 26th November at one of the best night clubs in Budapest called Liget Club.

Club Liget will provide an exceptional atmosphere for the event with the resident MC and DJ entertaining the players and fans during the games and in the breaks.

Once the finals have been played and winners are announced, the after party will commence and players’ supports can celebrate together and enjoy the rest of the night.

Entries are closing in a week’s time but we have already players registered from at least 10 different European countries including Switzerland, Malta, Germany, Austria and Poland.

The Top four will win automatic qualification for the World Championship of Ping Pong 2018 which will be held in Alexandra Place, London on the 27-28th January 2018.
