Study Approach

• HEC-6T numerical model.• This model has been applied successfully to

evaluate long-term sedimentation responses tovarious engineering projects along the LowerMississippi River. These applications haveincluded river response to dredging, flowdiversions through distributaries, construction of alow-flow sediment sill and contraction works.

Study Approach

• It is recognized that river response to dikes,especially overtopping dikes, is not strictly a one-dimensional, steady-flow, problem; however, it ishypothesized that one-dimensional effects aredominant and that careful application of thenumerical model will be useful in determiningappropriate lengths, heights, and longitudinalextent for dike field construction and long-termsedimentation trends in the river

• The model will consider reaches of the river (2-4miles) and not try to study specific areas.

• The model will be developed as one model fromthe upstream boundary to the downstreamboundary.
